I’ve decided that I’m going to read every Ursula K. Le Guin book in publication order. Rocannon’s World was the first one.

The story follows Rocannon, who is conducting an anthropological study on the planet Fomalhaut II and his interactions with the different species living there. Anthropology, different civilizations, shifting power dynamics; it has all the elements of a classic Ursula K. Le Guin story. I loved it.

My only complaint is that it was way too short. It felt like there was never enough time to fully understand the world, its different peoples, their relationships and their traditions. I felt like I was suddenly dropped into a completely unfamiliar world, everything started happening so quickly and then, the book was over.
