I never figured out how to skim read in school. It always felt like I could tell the difference in my understanding from actually reading a book, to someone else just skimming.
In the AI era there's a lot more text and a lot more of it means absolutely nothing. I'm skimming more, and I'm seeing other people read word for word more slop. Very distressing reversal.
