The thing worked with Ubuntu, why doesn't it work with Mint?
I understand that not everything is like Windows (and that was even the main reason why I chose Ubuntu first, the UI was quite different) but I don't think it's asking too much, nor it's a Windows-specific thing to expect to see what image you're about to upload when you upload an image.
