Three Bitcoin users in the US have sued Apple, claiming they lost a total of around $1.8 million in Bitcoin after downloading a fake version of Sparrow Wallet from the App Store.

What’s more, the original developer of Sparrow Wallet had warned Apple about the existence of these fake apps for over a year, but they were still available to users on the App Store.

Security investigations have also shown that dozens of fake apps have been operating in the Apple ecosystem by impersonating well-known wallet brands, with the main goal of stealing users’ recovery phrases (Seed Phrases).

The most important lesson from this story is that Bitcoin security should not be left to app stores. In Bitcoin, the recovery phrase is the master key to your assets, and whoever has it owns your Bitcoins.
