I was sent to SN classes because they didn't know what was wrong with me. I tested with a very high IQ, but would only be engaged with subjects I cared about. I knew I was different (and was teased for it). But never officially dx as ASD until recently (though I suspected it for years). And I was a troublemaker (I fought back against bullying and defended others who were bullied), and eventually got straight As. I was taken advantage of a few times, but learned to be wary of people's intentions. Pair-bonded a few times, got my heart broken -- but I'm still friends with my exes (one male, one female). In some ways, I had the worst of both worlds. Being self-aware is painful at times.
