Fabian Jahr, Open Source Developer at Brink, speaking at The Bitcoin Conference 2026, raised a deeper issue inside blockchain analytics: the industry often claims forensic certainty while shielding the actual attribution logic behind proprietary systems.
His concern wasn’t that heuristics exist, it was that they are increasingly treated as unquestionable in legal and compliance settings, even when external parties cannot inspect how conclusions were reached.
That creates a strange paradox for an industry built on transparent ledgers. The blockchain itself is open, but many of the systems interpreting it are not.
