two weeks ago I went to an R govy talks (about https://contributor.r-project.org/cran-cookbook/ ) and I learned a "poor" TA (thank you Beni Altmann!) had to review half of CRAN submissions. Given that (no money) I think CRAN is doing very well. Obv. it does not mean that it should not be improved :p
