But really though, I do think more people are narcissistic in this modern world than would otherwise be. It has a lot to do with where people spend their attention and what actions they are rewarded for. Narcissists feel the need to stand on top of social hierarchies and strive to have complete control of the people around them. When that behavior is enshrined at the highest levels of our civilizations, it trickles down and infects every level below it. Like a social virus that destroys harmony.
