His exact words were: “You’d forget your private key, just buy it on Binance.”
I honestly do not see how I could have misunderstood that.
I did not share this to attack anyone. It just felt really ironic, especially being part of the Nostr community where no one would advise something like this.
To be clear, I do not think he is evil or against Bitcoin’s core principles. I think he sees me as an NPC, someone who in his eyes will not invest much anyway, so it does not matter if I use a self-custody wallet or not. He assumes I am not knowledgeable enough to handle keys properly and that I will probably mess something up.
Which is just sad.
Even if you can only hold 1 satoshi, that is okay. Bitcoin is for everyone.
And if it is not your keys, it is not your 1 satoshi.
quotingLast year, I asked a friend who works in Bitcoin how I could set up a wallet because I didn’t want to keep my Bitcoin on an exchange. He told me, “You’d forget your private key, just buy it on Binance.”

He’s the co-founder of a Bitcoin company that recently got a $14M investment :)
