I waded a wee bit into the #permacomputing hashtag today. I groove on Virgil Dupras' work and writing, but much of this seems like play to me, a slight variation on retro hacking with much money and time. I get it. I've done my share. Our situation is too grave to play, for me. It is oppressive. Also, it hides the problems of modernity. What I see is a transition through some very difficult times. I see computers as helping *during* that time, but mostly as a bootstrap and visualization tool.
