snap won't let you access files outside $HOME and certain other directories.
Which is not very helpful for media production and other creative work, because who would store 500GB of photos in their $HOME, or even worse... some 7TB of video data for a film.
Need to check my future UbuntuStudio if Gimp comes as snap or not. Because often I "develop" photos using DigiKam from RAW, store them as PNG, and then continue in Gimp.
Which is also one of the few tools that is at all suitable for printing images, as you say.
