I heard a good comment a few weeks ago about how the upper class and working class got along due to similar shared interests..
The artisan class made things and the aristocracy ran things. The middle classes screwed things up and became bitter about it. They could never become part of the upper classes and saw the working class as beneath them.
So they are stuck in a managerial purgatory of their own making.
