As I built out my website using openclaw on vps I flipped between several high and low cost models. Many would get 50% of the way there with iteration, then crap out. I asked Claude a simple question about if it could install something and I saw my token wallet drain about $40 in 2 minutes. Gemini 3 flash is the most reasonable— seems to understand a lot and make common sense solutions but I always need to start from a higher model to sketch big picture. https://tagstr.space cost about $300 of tokens and $60 sub and a casual maybe 30 hours of work from me (there was a previous website version too). I may have been able to do this without openclaw and choosing only codex or something for cheaper. Granted it is a whole marketplace etc. $300 is actually way cheaper than hiring someone for sure, but my context is for the average normie. Also, my daily news type reports (some are a bit complex but not amazingly so) are costing about $2/day. I don’t think most people will pay $60 a month for them. If you are technical and know what you’re doing you can probably be10x more cost efficient than non techies like me.
