I was thinking of the many things you can do to a human brain. Stimulate the amygdala directly to cause rage, and the human will hallucinate a reason (and believe it). Pay them to read a script or to steelman an argument, and their beliefs going forward are tweaked.
We are built differently to ANNs, but we are also jerry-rigged messes with delusions of agency.
