⚡️🇮🇱 NEW - More than 100 IDF soldiers and commanders drop their weapons and abandon Sde Teiman base in a mass rebellion, per Israel Hayom
More than 100 soldiers and commanders from the Givati Brigade’s Tzabar Battalion laid down their weapons and left the Sde Teiman military base without authorization following a confrontation with their battalion commander, Israeli media reported.
Sde Teiman is the notorious military detention and torture site where Israel has held Palestinians seized en masse from Gaza, including men and boys rounded up during military raids, without charge or access to lawyers. Former detainees, whistleblowers and rights groups have documented severe beatings, systematic rape and sexual abuse, and other forms of torture there.
The soldiers reportedly abandoned their weapons and equipment before heading home. The Israeli military said disciplinary action would follow.
The dispute began, the Times of Israel reported, after the commander ordered battalion signs removed and smashed some with a hammer, saying they contained material humiliating new recruits.
There is no indication that the Israeli soldiers abandoned their post over the treatment of Palestinians.
