Tribalism is political potential energy. You can try to shuffle in place building up energy for quite a while, but eventually that energy has to go somewhere. Pressuring people of differing political viewpoints into the same space creates a lot of drama in the short term, but that drama is also a way for both sides to release their built up tension and teach themselves lessons the easy way.
The hard way of discharging political potential occurs when people start killing eachother. Personally I would rather start working on the problem sooner rather than later, so that hopefully the killing is kept to a minimum.
