Lots of videos downloaded online are .webm so it's especially retarded.
Apple is real annoying when it comes to codecs and file extensions. For instance, ALAC is basically completely inferior to FLAC audio in compression ratios but you can't import FLACs to the music app. This is a similar story with AAC and Opus. Opus is superior but Apple invested a lot in AAC development so they lock everyone into that.
I hated those iOS days, I'm glad I can just throw opus songs on my android and forget about it.

They are when it's run by state intelligence who has access to lightning node records and ISP/BGP data through legal subpoenas and PATRIOT act surveillance jurisdiction.
You need strong network level privacy AND om-chain privacy for sender, reciever, and amounts.
L1 bitcoin fails all of these and lightning only adds a small amount of network level privacy in the ideal, and 0 network level privacy when trusting an LSP or Spark.

Basically an LSP service on top of a Bitcoin L2 they call a "statechain".
Worse privacy than a normal LSP setup because you now have a partial on-chain footprint. More layers to trust BUT you don't need to be online to recieve. That's the big advantage.
Unsuitable for privacy usecases, the best you'll get is pseudonymity linked to your IP.

Lol there's nowhere to go where you can buy without debt at least in the US. If you want to have children in your 20s and don't have an inheritance or familial help, it's literally mathematically impossible to get even half of the average housing price in cash.
The counterargument then would be "don't have kids until you're mid 30s and both husband and wife work full time careers til that point" yeah definitely then you could save enough cash to get the average house without debt, but then you can't have children.

In order to afford a home and children most families have to be dual income in the US. Her situation doesn't change with a husband, most likely she still won't be able to afford to stay at home with her kids.
I know from experience, I make above the average household income just by myself and just got a mortgage on a home half the average home cost and am still drowning with just one child and stay at home wife. For the average man with a mortgage double mine and half my salary? Literally impossible, the mortgage would be over the monthly take home income alone.
It can't be understated how fucked it is for creating a family as a zoomer in the US. You basically have to be above average to live in poverty just to avoid an infinite debt cycle and have a positive savings rate. Most are dual income with net negative savings, acruing debt each month.

Stock Pixel OS isn't, thus when GrapheneOS claims to not have Google Play Services or any other spyware pre-installed, you already have a much higher degree of trust in your base system.

Stop spreading FUD. Compromised firmware is much less powerful than compromised firmware and compromised OS. Installing GrapheneOS is a major upgrade for privacy and security.
If you want true privacy in computing, yeah you need libreboot with Kicksecure or something similar. But let's not pretend GrapheneOS doesn't drastically reduce spyware.

Theyve had confidential transactions since the inception of Liquid on the Liquid sidechain which is a near carbon copy of the codebase. The FUD around them is so crazy though there's no chance it will be hard forked into Bitcoin core. Very true. Theres even DAI which is decentralized and algorithmic. Or TBTC which is a decentralized BTC wrapper on Ethereum. You can even shield these with Railgun with ZK SNARK privacy tech.
I'm going with those over custodial options every day of the week. Bitcoin's completely done if they don't make tangible L1 improvements in transaction velocity and privacy. FCMP++ is in stress-net now and is going to go live on mainnet likely this year. It's the biggest hardfork in Monero's history and is groundbreaking new cryptography. Monero is the opposite of ossified, it's on the cutting edge.
Nostr is about as private as social media can be which is to say its pseudononymous with only IP exposure on most clients. Idk what more you could do, social media is supposed to be public.
Bitcoin is terribly uncompetitive as MoE on L1, and has a major UX, scaling and privacy issue even on Lightning. It's ossification is its downfall. Everyone's pivoting to SoV HODL use case but don't realise there's no value to store if Bitcoin can never be a MoE.

Save wherever you please that wasn't my point. My point was that if you wish to buy in on Monero and have some sit there based on a speculative "in case it catches on" that mentality is damaging to the network.
Monero only has value from its use. It may be a good savings vessel over long term due to it's scarcity but scarcity is meaningless without demand. If you want to save a few in Monero, make sure you're spending in Monero too or else you're effectively leeching from the value created by those who do participate in the p2p economy.
We CANNOT allow Monero to be coopted by speculative HODLers, there's very little competition already in the privacy coin space we can't lose Monero.

Yeah, reading the Spark docs too: https://www.spark.money/research/what-is-spark-bitcoin-layer-2 the sidechain implementation is referred to as a statechain in which it's a separate ledger but rolled into L1 UTXOs. Better for security of the sidechain but now even worse for scaling than I thought as the halvings continue and fees go astronomical.
You are basically now trusting the code implementation of the Spark statechain, the operators of the statechain and the LSP operating the Lightning channels for you.
At least you can recieve without being online unlike Phoenix and Zeus pretty nice. Too bad there's still 0 privacy from the LSP.

Even the WoS Spark implementation is in a self custodial grey area. Not only are they serving as a Lightning Service Provider in which you must trust them for channel management and channel balance security, you're also pushing trust onto the security of the Spark sidechain. Usually with self-custodial lightning you have to monitor for malicious peer activity manually or via watchdog nodes but with Spark its much more difficult due to the abstraction.
Spark is essentially a layer 3 at this point. Which begs the question, if we're already trusting a sidechain AND lightning channels (two huge security leaps), why would one use Spark over WBTC or TBTC on an EVM chain or BTCX on Zano? Most of the global south already has adopted USDT/C on Tron and EVM chains, it'd be easier UX for those users to use wrapped BTC on their existing wallets.
Also privacy is basically 0 from Spark implementations. A far cry from the great sender privacy of a private LND node behind Tor.
Overall point here is, we can add in a bunch of convoluted trust points in order to make lightning work, but it's just kicking the can. Lightning is only as secure and scalable as the base chain and since the community has agreed to ensure L1 remains slow, expensive and transparent, it severely handicaps Lightning.

Good point about WBTC. We already have decentralized BTC wrappers on ethereum like TBTC, or BTC with Monero level privacy with XBTC on Zano.
Who's going to bother with liquidity, or node uptime, or LNURLs or any lightning nonsense when they get cheap transactions, on-chain UX, and nearly perfect privacy with XBTC on Zano? Or WBTC on a Ethereum L2 for nearly free transactions and the same easy on-chain UX?

They do have Monero to Bitcoin but you have to use the maker binary, it's not native in the wallet, which is probably your point. Basicswap DEX has atomic swaps in both directions. Retoswap's highest volume pair is BTC and Monero.
As for them being complementary, yes I agree they are for now. If Bitcoin continues to be the institutional pump coin then the strategy of spend Monero save Bitcoin will likely continue for most.

If the Bitcoin maxi culture is completely shed and ossification culture is shunned then we may finally see protocol level improvements to fungibility and privacy. Where were going it looks to be the opposite, though @nprofile…6el4 is bringing up usage a lot more which is a good sign.
Ultimately I think Bitcoins price will have to crash to get rid of the institutional "adoption" (capture) and number-go-up culture. Then we may truly see a Monero competitor when devs have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
Bitcoin has an awesome name and logo, and is already in everyone's mind. Nobody I've met has ever heard of Monero, which is intentional through leaked memos of state intelligence. They intentionally don't mention it, ostensibly to downplay its significance and reduce its network effect.
I hoped that they would have added Monero's upgrades that Satoshi talked about in the early early days. The state would be in big trouble if they had a Monero equivalent coin with all the MoE and privacy upgrades but with Bitcoins market cap and network effect. Actually they'd be screwed which is probably why it's played out like it has.

Lol the importance of darknet market utilization is its the only p2p market in the world that REQUIRES cryptocurrency. Giant centralizing factor using one entity as a universal recipient across merchants. Timing attacks become trivial especially when most users use custodial solutions or LSP solutions. If the first peer knows your transaction (LSP channel) and the last peer knows your transaction (BOLTZ) and state intelligence subpoenas both (you already know they get all that info) then you literally have 0 privacy through simple timing analysis.

This is the main issue with a traceable ledger. Each transaction is known to all by default. The IRS instantly knows about your Bitcoin purchases and will send you a letter about your unreported on-chain movements. Happened to a family member of mine.
This is likely a main reason we see Monero used more. An untraceable chain is safer for both parties.
The buyer doesn't worry about the IRS knowing about their transaction, unless they get a warrant and subpoena the seller. Even in this case, if you don't give identifying information to the seller, there's no prosecution.
The seller doesn't worry about tainted coins, and an influx of legal cases in which they have to hire a lawyer to defend against accusations of money laundering and the like for unknowingly accepting tainted coins.
If you propose lightning, know that most merchants who accept Bitcoin, Monero and Lightning see lightning usage at <2%. I've never seen 3% or greater in any statistic. This is likely due to UX hurdles on both buyer and seller, and that most implementations with easy UX (custodial wallets and low privacy options like SPARK and LSP solutions) are extremely traceable thus bringing us to the original problem.
Monero has almost the same UX as Bitcoin on-chain. Actually easier because you dont have to worry about UTXO hygiene, coinjoins, tainted UTXOs, etc. All you need to keep in mind is not to give the same address to different people which is the bare minimum of Bitcoin privacy.

Yeah I disagree about your claim that humans are more prosperous post industrial revolution. I'm not a materialist so what I value most is spiritual prosperity. Spiritual prosperity is almost directly opposed to material prosperity. You gain spiritual prosperity through submission to God, service to family and community, penance, prayer etc. We find in our post industrial, technological world that these elements are shockingly rare in the average day yet were the focus of the life of say a feudal peasant. I find we are now spiritually destitute, slaves to sin and thus that's how I come to my conclusions.
