I think it's a good idea to prompt the user to confirm if pasting the fully qualified URL is what they actually wanted.
We never want to assume we are smarter than the user and just automatically replace the content they pasted, but prompting seems like the right balance in this case.

all primal clients always generate nostr nevent references for mentioned notes. the only way to end up with a primal url is to deliberately paste it in the note.

Interesting; I honestly never considered this scenario. There is no way to prevent the state where both mute and follow are true (since the user can use a different client to mute or follow).
But I agree: if both mute and follow are true then probably mute should override the follow. We'll make it so.

We don't facilitate that anywhere in our UI. All note mentions generate nostr:nevent format. My guess is that some users copy & paste the url from the browser address bar.

In our experience push notifications won’t help beyond just letting the user know that they should open the app to resume their remote session.
Don’t worry at all about being a “quick copycat”. We’d love to see more signers, which is why we shared the playbook.

Yes, you can easily trigger the signer by using the standard nostrconnect:// uri scheme. That's what a "Login with Nostr" button should do.
We even added support for a convenient "callback" parameter, so Primal will redirect back to your app immediately after establishing the remote connection. If it's a browser app, simply use callback=https://[your_app_login_progress_page] to get redirected back to your app.
@nprofile…0hy6 implemented this flow for some of his web apps; it works great. Derek, maybe you could share a quick video of this in action?

I think it’s fair to say that we broke new ground with our iOS remote signer. People have been trying to build something like this for a long time (even predating Nostr) and afaik all those attempts have been shut down by Apple. Some of our well informed users are concerned that our implementation breaks Apple’s rules and that Primal might get banned from the App Store. I’ll share our experience here so that other builders can benefit from it.
First and foremost: we didn’t try to sneak this feature in. We provided a detailed explanation to the app store review team outlining exactly what we are doing and how. The technical tldr is: the only way to keep your iOS app running in the background is to play sound or dox user location. There is a history of developers trying to hack their way in by playing silent audio tracks or attempting to trick the reviewers (and confuse the users) in other ways.
The key to our success was that we actually built a polished ambient sound feature for our signer. Some users might actually want ambient sound for their remote sessions, so we took great care to pick the appropriate sounds and build polished UI that enables users to control those sounds via the dynamic island or the live activity UI on the lock screen. We also designed an informative sound opt in screen at the beginning of the session. This is important: the user is fully informed and totally in control every step of the way. I am not sure, but it might be helpful that Primal was already a multimedia app so this feature doesn’t feel out of place.
In any case, that’s how we did it; hope it helps other builders. 🫡

Big news Nostr fam: the Primal Remote Signer is here! 🫡
We just released Primal 2.6, which includes a NIP-46 remote signer built into our iOS and Android apps. Now you can use your Primal mobile app to login to any Nostr app that supports the remote login (a.k.a. nsec bunker) standard. IMHO this is the easiest and most secure way to login to Nostr web apps.
Check out Paul’s overview video below. We had to do some crazy stuff to make this work on iOS. Overall this was way harder to build than we anticipated. Try it and let us now how it hits!

The onboarding flow on the Primal web app wasn't very good, so we removed it for now. In general, people are much better off onboarding via mobile apps. We are working on making the overall onboarding process much nicer; hope to have something to share soon.

Two thoughts on this:
1. We need to get out of the mindset of “building nostr apps”. We simply need to build great products that people want to use, and Nostr will be the underlying protocol. So totally agree with Jack on this.
2. In the long run, we will absolutely displace X and other closed platforms. It will be a grind, but we will wrestle away the network effects from gradually, then suddenly.

You don't need a Primal Pro / Studio license to publish articles on nostr. You can use the free article editor, which is a part of our web app. Simply go to Reads, then click "New Article" in the left sidebar.

Some Primal services were affected by the Cloudflare outage for a few hours earlier today. Specifically, our web app, external wallet transactions, and partially our blossom media server. We are fully back up now and continue to monitor the situation. Our sincere apologies for the inconvenience.
Running services which are resistant to ddos attacks is hard without relying on providers like Cloudflare unfortunately. We are working on upgrading our infrastructure so that we are more resilient in the future. As long as we learn and improve every time as a result of these incidents, we are on the right track.

Hey thanks for the heads up. These were test streams we used while developing the player in our apps. Don’t need them anymore, so we just stopped them now.
However, we are preparing a stream broadcasting service for Primal Studio (currently in alpha), for which we are planning frequent updates to reflect accurate viewer counts. Is that not a good practice?

Primal publishes all your content directly to your relay list, per the NIP-65 standard. Simply go to Settings / Network and set the relays you wish to publish to.
Please confirm if that worked for you @nprofile…dyyq and @nprofile…wtqv. If it didn't, please specify which Primal app you are using (iOS / android / web) and which version you are on.
