BIG mistake to send in Marines to LA: we had an Indigenous protest in BC about 30 years ago; armed confrontation. #RCMP were in charge and folks said "send in the army". They didn't: the police are trained DIFFERENTLY from the army. Military are trained to deal with ENEMIES. It's NOT the same as what police (even bad police) are trained to do. Cops are trained to control: military are trained to defeat.

After about 10 years with my GP he decided to stop doing physical prostate exams (never did PSA); I decided to stay with him. This past summer I discovered I have prostate cancer. Full prostatectomy, likely radiation and hormone therapy coming.

Interesting that this article on #trans folks in history doesn't mention #JanMorris, one of the best travel writers EVER. I read her work probably 50 years ago...before I learned she was trans. An incredibly brave woman, she was one of the earliest public transitions. Died in 2020 at 94. Important fact: she said in her published diary/memoir that she ate marmalade every day. That's my girl!

I have had a health issue for the last 6 months. I've had 4 blood tests, two scans, 4 specialist consultations, a biopsy, and will have surgery in 2 weeks. And so far it's cost me about $12, everything happened with amazing swiftness and efficiency, and I was treated with respect and excellent care at every step.
Almost all of this was paid for by our taxes; it's why I've been HAPPY to pay taxes for 50+ years - as Oliver Wendell Holmes said, taxes are the price of civilization.

I don't know about rebels, but the original Constitution, drafted in Philadelphia in the summer of 1787, was incredibly conservative, written by 55 elite/aristocratic men (only 39 signed it) and was a) protective of property and capitalism and b) did everything it could do to blunt democracy (openly feared "the mob").
