@npub17fz…9yxv is great for sharing bitcoin with people who don’t yet have any bitcoin or even a bitcoin wallet. However, when I compose a specific denomination, it ends up being a lot of tokens - in other words, a very long URL that I’m trying to use. The web URL is so long that messaging apps often don’t even recognize it as a link… and it can even look a bit like a scam. In printed form, I can’t use animated QR codes.
I understand that using powers of two has many advantages, such as privacy or simpler splitting and merging. However, wouldn’t it make sense in some cases to create one-time exact denominations? Or to keep it composed of many tokens, but allow the mint to temporarily group them into a single alias? Since there is already trust in the given mint, it feels like this wouldn’t introduce additional risk.
What do you think? @npub12rv…85vg ? 🙏

Interesting point. I think that it depends on your perception of previous state. If you think it’s evil, you probably want to switch it as fast as possible.
Some people can find evil even diesel cars - I don’t. But fiat system is in my eyes purely evil and therefore I wish bitcoin to voluntarily replace it.

I’m trying to find answers for myself to the previously mentioned questions around @npub17fz…9yxv.
Who will operate the mint? Without KYC. It won’t be run by a regulated entity
- Mints already exist - it seems this in itself isn’t such a big problem
How should a mint be selected in the wallet?
- The application can choose a default, but that leads to centralization and additional vulnerabilities.
- Select automatically based on defined parameters? Once the scoring is known, it will likely be attackable.
- The least bad option today seems to be to set some default mint (for example minibits) and allow easy switching. At least experienced users could consider which mint they use. When they then onboard someone, by sending their first cashu token to a friend they also set the first mint for them.
What if a given mint stops working?
- If it’s planned, tokens can be automatically moved to another mint. However, the user needs to at least open the app.
What if users don’t respond to notifications?
- People will lose their funds ⚠️
What if the mint does a rug pull?
- People will lose their funds ⚠️
From this, it follows to me that cashu is a great tool for onboarding new users. However, they should move their funds at the first opportunity or above a certain amount to a sovereign solution. Is that simply on-chain? Or is it better to experiment with Ark, Spark? Or Bitkit/Phoenix?

At the last bitcoin meetup, I was intrigued by a 60-year-old bitcoiner who wasn’t interested in any lofty ideas about how bitcoin will improve the world. He simply has bad experiences with the state. Many years ago, he didn’t pay a property tax. It was a relatively small amount. However, over the years, they calculated very high interest on it. Eventually, he wasn’t able to pay it at all. Gradually, debt collectors stripped him of all his official assets.
He renounced his citizenship - I’m not sure how he manages it, but he says he only has a passport and a driver’s license. He has to renew the driver’s license every five years, and for that purpose he temporarily arranges citizenship again. I might be using some terms incorrectly. In any case, this person lives in the Czech Republic but doesn’t have any bank account, so he pays for everything he can with bitcoin. 🔥
For that reason, he also dreams of better ways to acquire bitcoin around the world. Like peer-to-peer exchanges even in smaller amounts (for security reasons), based just on location, or cooperating with pensioners who have bank accounts, so they can buy bitcoin for him on exchanges and he gives them cash with an extra fee.
And btw his mother is over 80 and collects sats through silly online clicking games. Seems like that the age is not a blocker for using bitcoin at all.

Eddie created a “Med-O-Mat” - a honey vending machine. Two things about it caught my attention:
1. The goal wasn’t to use lightning, but to find a working offline payment solution. And bitcoin, with the help of LNbits, turned out to be the best approach. 💪
2. He built it in a small village where most residents are of retirement age and generally not interested in bitcoin. But once he helped the first elderly lady set up an LN wallet and sent her first sats, it triggered a chain reaction. She started showing it to others. It seems that age is not a barrier to bitcoin adoption at all.
According to Eddie, locals have even started using these payments in some other businesses. 🔥
