Ah, no, sorry: fedi is full of projects which may or may not work, but it's quite alive as a platform. Because it's *actually* decentralised.
Will it ever explode? I don't know. But it will be able to keep trying for a long, long time. Not so Bluesky.

I cannot recommend enough KDE itinerary, which allows you to travel using planes, trains, buses, bikes without using the inevitably broken and privacy violating apps from the various operators.
Caveat: it's not big fingers friendly, and weirdly treats the "back" gesture as "close".
But it's so nice...

I'm going to make a prediction. LLMs will never be intelligent. They can't because they obviously lack some of the fundamental requirements. Don't ask me what these are(I could speculate), but the diagnosis is clear.
All service tasks require intelligence. There's a lot of boilerplate, but underneath is intelligence, and the intelligence lies in the specific arrangement of the boilerplate.
From this it follows there will never be large or even significant productivity gains from LLM use.

and yet, somehow, all Java apps I've ever used were horrible and slow, from desktop things to simulation code, and the c++ ones were nearly all fast.
I'll also note the vanishingly small amount of HPC code made in java...

The assembly people were eventually wrong. But the point was always enabling much more complex and useful systems. And of course, compilers frequently do better assembly than humans.
The java people are still wrong, and with the RAMpocalypse, extra wrong today.
Because the point of Java was to force code that looked clean to managers...
LLMs do vastly worse code than humans, and also cause humans to be worse at code, and so the sneerers are very correct.

Because I'm a politician, I can say the following.
There are voters that no party should want to represent. The deplorables, the fascists at heart.
This was the real lesson of politics after WW2, which was forgotten.
Getting and keeping their vote means you're giving up on democracy, the rule of law, and ultimately will cause immense pain for no benefit.
If your party can't survive without those votes, take a good look at yourself in the mirror...

the conversation is about preferences. Preferences are strange things people don't state straight up. Stating preferences almost always signals other things.
In this instance "I prefer the bear", means "I have bad experiences with men" (like you and the bear!)
Most people never encountered bears, and have no strong opinions about them. They have, however, encountered men, and have strong opinions there.
Strong negative opinion wins over weak negative opinion.

you're missing the point. You find bears terrifying because of your encounter. Also, grizzlies are terrifying.
But when you ask people, and many, many say "the man", that tells something about *their experience*. and the fact that really, objectively, meeting a random grizzly is worse than a random man, is not relevant.
Because the point is that a huge fraction of women have horrible experiences with men, and that is how you allow them to express it.

it seems to me you want a cryptographic signature for files. Of course, you need to provide all manners of formats to serve.

Why do I go on about Degrowth being a scam?
It's because it absolutely harms the environment: basically, the headline "we need to shrink GDP" is unproductive and only pleases the "we must atone" crowd. Which in turn hurts the overall movement.
But crucially, it's a no-go in the developing world, which is where 90% of the future emissions will happen!
And it's stupid: most of the actual actions proposed will *grow* GDP.
Except in petro-states. Fuck 'em
