Windows Phone was launched in 2010 and discontinued in 2015 when Windows 10 Mobile got introduced, which in turn was EoL'ed in 2020.
Original iPhone got introduced in 2007, so it kinda "was there first" 😄
Are you not confusing it with earlier Windows Mobile/CE? I believe kernel of Windows Phone 7 was based on Windows CE, but otherwise they weren't compatible and had little in common.

I don't do a lot of stuff like that remotely, but I have several headless machines at home and I hate having to plug some input into those only so that I can reboot them properly 😅
When I do something that might have effect on me being able to reach the machine, I open a new screen session (something that would keep running even if I get disconnected, substitute screen with multiplexer of your choice) and run a script that restores things to how they were before in 15 minutes. In this case, even if things go terribly wrong, I only have to wait for 15 minutes.

You're right, from the point of data they are just tuples. It's about the context: they are explaining operator overloading, plus in the example, so they should be using things adding which to one another would seem natural, mixing drinks having different ingredients would feel intuitive, but their example to me was like: adding… points, WTF? 🤔 Oh, I see…

Some insist that in linear algebra, it would be okay to add points because they are the same from the point of data and then get into semantics.
After reading that and realising that I'm not the first one to run into this, I even wanted to discard my post and then pressed submit by accident 😂
But now that I think about it, even if some consider adding points okay, my point still stands: it's okay to say: "There is something behind that bush, probably a wolf",— if it turns out a dog, no one would be surprised. You can even say: "It's just a big dog",— explaining wolf to a child, but when you are using dog for wolf in a textbook explaining different concept, it still feels out of place — using broader term like "canine" would probably be better.

This is example from The Rust Programming Language book demonstrating operator overloading.
Okay, I get it they needed a simple structure with a couple of fields to demonstrate the… ehm, point. But operator overloading is what you do when you want to make something feel more natural and… what's the mathematical meaning of adding one point to another? AFAIR in geometry you don't do that — you can add two vectors starting in the point of origin and ending at specified coordinates, you can subtract pairs of coordinates and find the lenght of the resulting vector to learn the distance, but this makes no sense — you dont add *points* to each other per se!
It would make more sense if it was Drink { rum: i32, cola: i32 } or Basket { mushrooms: i32, potatoes: i32 }. Of course one can figure out that Point is just a pair of coordinates here, then name it Coord or Displacement and leave x and y be — now that feels natural, adding points just feels weird 🥴

TBH I don't remember too well myself how exactly it is (was?) broken 😅
I used to have a file somewhere to demonstrate it, but I'm not sure I still do — because later LLVM got broken on PowerPC and later even GCC, and I ultimately lost interest in making modern shit work on this machine, so I have never acted on this issue in Nim.
Having everyone check it on their end would probably be more correct, but it's unrealistic. Nitter had a couple of "problematic" dependencies which I replaced with ones that offered near-identical functionality, but relied of C code and which were basically just bindings for C code in Nim — and Nitter started working for me.

It's really cool, with CSS support and all. And some web page elements are rendered very narrow on a 32-bit PowerPC, but I never run into this issue on neither my 64-bit Intel machines, nor even on a 32-bit ARM one — and to me this appears like that old issue again. I've written down commits between which this issue appears, but then I became a lazy ass and never narrowed it down further — down to particular code. It would make more sense for me to learn Nim properly first — I mean of course I can read some of it, which was enough to replace dependencies in Nitter with others, but most of the time, looking at Nim code I'm more like: WTF does this shit mean?! 🤪

AFAIR Live has this excellent "Collect all and save" thing — which places copies of everything the project depends on in project's own directory. Doing it all the time for WIP projects makes little sense because soon you might find yourself with hundreds of duplicates of stuff that is already in you instrument library — but it's a wise thing to do before archiving finished projects.
I have a few projects with missing parts myself, but luckily, I still have full hard disk images of my computers from two decades ago and the fact that all this stuff is theoretically there somewhere gives me a warm fuzzy feeling 😁

Same with putting everything in a container, implementing CI/CD and reproducible builds for their projects consisting of two source files… All this contributes to the sheer complexity of modern technology — people are attempting to solve problems they don't even fully understand and they might never even run into, this introduces going for "enterprise grade" solutions even for tiny scale things 😩

Nah, my cloud (which is a 20 y.o. Mac Mini sitting on top of a bookcase) is fine.
It's just a pun on Signal being a secure messenger, but relying on third-party infrastructure.
Nothing wrong with relying on others' infrastructure per-se, I'm not one of those full-on paranoid types — but the founders of Signal probably are. Me too, but websites target greater demographic and if it's something non-technical, most would likely be happy with such a default no matter what language they have set in the browser.
Web is already broken in more ways than one: some things get implemented for convenience, then get exploited and a hack appears to fix it. It carries all this luggage of legacy cruft based on practices that worked at some point and no one dares to throw this all away and start from scratch in a more consistent manner 🤷

On the other hand — I think Accept-Language header is used for fingerprinting, so my Firefox likely sends "the default" en-US 😅
And as much I hate geoIP being used for… anything really, I have to admit: our older relatives probably appreciate that websites speak their mother tongue even in private mode.
Audodetecting language based on IP-address is minor annoyance I can live with, what makes me boil is this being used for security: "You are attempting to log in from a different city — you must have been hacked!" As we all know, no one but evil hackers uses VPN. They have to at least give users the option to disable this shit — yet neither Apple, nor Microsoft, nor, I believe, Google allow it.

Many Americans have this very wrong idea of what serfdom was, having the impression that there was some father figure taking care of you, when in reality it's literally being treated as an expendable resource. It is true, when you own something, you don't just destroy it, but in reality a lot of people are far from taking proper care of things they own — and same was happening to serfs. And of course no one was treating them as human beings — just as things that grow on your land, things you can buy and sell. Women, at least in Russia, weren't even accounted for and were just considered a nice bonus.
