People complaining about the Steam Machine price don't seem to understand that:<li>Valve is not subsidizing the computer</li><li>The computer is not locked down like a traditional console. You do not need to pay a monthly or yearly fee in order to play your games online</li><li>The Steam store consistently has the best sales on the market</li><li>The computer has access to every game in my library that can run on the hardware, as does any computer that runs Steam</li><li>Valve will not charge you an upgrade fee per game when the Steam Machine 2 is released</li><li>The cost to build an equivalent PC is slightly less, yes, but you literally cannot build a PC that has the same form factor as the Steam Machine. Mini-ITX is still bigger than the Steam Machine. The difference is huge. I could not fit a Mini-ITX computer in my TV room, I could fit a Steam Machine in my living room</li>
If you consider only points 2 & 3 above, the lifetime cost of owning a Steam Machine is probably on par with the lifetime cost of owning any other console.

this is such an absurd take. No one on Blue Sky actually wants a person from Mastodon (or elsewhere) to come preach to them about why Blue Sky is bad and why their platform of choice is better. Not a single person will be convinced this way. Stop encouraging people to be debate bros.
There's nothing wrong with choosing to opt out of federating with Blue Sky, stop acting like it's a moral obligation.

One of the ways I'm dealing with AI slop at work is that when I'm giving feedback on the work I'm making sure to never assign the responsibility of the bad code to the AI. I'm directly saying that "this change that YOU made needs to be corrected". I'm always assigning the output of the AI to the person who put me in the position of reviewing the work. It is their responsibility to read the code that they're trying to review, they are responsible for 100% of the code, so they also get 100% of the blame when it's bad. If a change is confusing or nonsensical I'll ask "why did YOU make this change?". I'll never ask why an AI made a change, that we cannot know. All we can know is why someone thought it was acceptable to ship garbage, and we can assign them the responsibility for the garbage that they're willing to ship

FYI apparently Amazon has a feature in beta that scrapes the web stores of companies (and independent artists) not on their website, allowing you to buy the items on Amazon. Basically they act as a middle man, without your consent, to put your stuff on their marketplace. They're doing this to artists right now.

Hello fellow software people, I have a question: If you were tasked at increasing the quality of the code written at your company what would you do?
For our purposes assume quality means: maintainable, human readable code, with minimal bugs, where complex solutions are only desired when necessary. This definition is tweakable.
Replies/boosts are encouraged. Opinions are expected, because I suspect this is a very opinionated topic.
Things off the table: firing people, switching languages or frameworks.

Here's my most recent watercolor painting. It's a Gila Woodpecker sitting on the top of a Saguaro in bloom. The source of this painting is a photo I took in Tucson in mid April. If you've never been to the Saguaro National Park I highly recommend it.

Yes, that is probably the only thing that is easy to transfer. You have to create an account on a new server first, then you can initiate an account redirect, which will notify all of your followers of the new account, and they'll automatically follow the new account. You still have to export the accounts you're following though, but that is easy to export, and easy to import. The things I listed above have no export or import mechanism at all, you have to do all of that work manually.

Things I wish would be easily exported and imported when moving accounts on Mastodon:
- Filtered keywords
- Followed hashtags
- All of my account and app settings (e.g. notifications settings)
