My thought was just stripping away all the exceptions, deductions, credits. So that when the billionaire tax marginal tax rate is 35% or whatever it actually is, that they pay that amount.

Among other reasons, one reason for the increasing retail theft that business owners and law is enforcement doesn't seem keen to highlight is the reduction of staffing.
Just walked out of a Michael's where there is one cashier, 6+ self checkout machines (all in use), an online self-service pickup area, and just a few employees throughout the remainder of the store.
I'm not saying they need more staffing but it is a business decision to cut labor and accept an increase in shrink.

I got the below message today from a former colleague at my last job.
I sent this along to an HR contact that I have there. I doubt anything will happen but I couldn't do nothing.
It pisses me off so much. It again adds to the fact that my layoff was not a neutral layoff based on skills. I was targeted because I was outspoken to a new and controlling manager. And HR let it happen. And don't fucking soil my name when I'm not around to defend it.

The article is light on details, so take it with a grain of salt. They are comparing 2025 to 2020 prices. I'm sure inflation has some influence. We ought to be decreasing our energy usage (per capita) not increasing it rapidly.
I see no way that AI is returning anything near the value of what it's taking to power it. It's not sustainable. Big tech must be subsidizing it heavily in hopes that something useful comes from it and/or they beat competitors and lock in a monopoly.
