The temporary part isn't why a reorg is threatened. A reorg is threatened because if in August 110 has 30% hash power and then in December it surges to 60+% hash power, you're looking at a potential for 3+ months of transactions to be reorged out when the 110 chain potentially becomes the heaviest chain. What is known as a flippening.

Filters work to make a lot of spam disincentivized, such as those involving fraud proofs that rely on being able to predictably get included in blocks in a timely manner. Nothing works against a dedicated attacker pushing arbitrary data onto the chain, however, it can be disincentivized by taking measures to push it into op_return (and thus, away from the witness discount), fixing the broken incentives that the witness discount introduced, making spam 4x more economical to include.
Throwing a tantrum and potentially blowing up bitcoin because Core's a bunch of meanie heads solves nothing, but hey, at least the jpg's will have gaps in them that will require a few lines of code to reassemble automatically. It also has ensured that anyone who wasn't on board with filters won't be likely coming over anytime soon, as this whole campaign has seen a rhetorical conflation of Knots with BIP-110. An own-goal and a half.
How we push more onto op_return and away from the more harmful fields (more harmful in terms of utxo bloat) is a bigger issue of course. And one that does seem like we all should be interested in addressing. And hey, it just so happens, even most of the core crowd agrees.
Anyway...for those whose heads are spinning, probably don't panic too much, but maybe look into how replay attack works and how to protect yourself against them, because August marks the beginning of a potentially very perilous period for transaction immutability for Bitcoin. Hopefully it is short lived.

It's not really capitalism (an economic organizational method wherein the interests of capital direct the economic activity), but rather, moneyprinterism.
Between regulatory moats and uneven access to the cantillon effect, I'm not sure what can really still justify the idea that we currently have anything like capitalism.
Kleptocracy usually means something a little different but it's probably the closest existing word I can think of to describe our situation.

The Bitcoin miners would be the easy part -- there's a fairly messy cleaning process involved.

Oh absolutely. Jews were always just convenient deputies because they were otherwise downtrodden in Europe and could be bribed more easily to comply by the power brokers. It also helped that during the era of the strictest usury laws, Christians couldn't lend at interest, but as they demanded credit, Jews became a convenient source of it.
Meanwhile, power brokers typically don't like to do their dirty work themselves. It wasn't a bunch of white guys from Langley that sold crack in the ghettoes in the 80s, after all.
The founders of the Bank of England weren't Jewish, nor those who owned and ran the Dutch East India Company before it (RIGHT before it was founded, incidentally, being when the Dutch effectively took power over the British Throne with the Glorious Revolution).
That said, the Warburg family, which did come through the Netherlands, does go back to the Venetian banking era (or at least, that's what they themselves claim -- that they had changed their family name from "del Banco"). I don't think this indicates much other than the fact that they've been convenient hired goons for a particularly long time, but they do at least go back well before the era of real British power on the global stage.

I understand it in previous cycles. But I'd think that with some of the more mature collateralized lending solutions out there to avoid cap gains there'd be less of it at this point.
Especially because whatever else you're buying at this point is going to be kyc'ed with counterparty risk anyway, so most of the arguments against it are pretty much moot. The only caveat is that while selling your bitcoin and paying the taxes will leave you with ~80% of the value, borrowing against it will usually only leave you able to access 50% (+future upside).
But whatever, it's their money to do with what they want. And spreading coins to a broader base is probably good. I'd just hope it's actually going broader, rather than just into institutional coffers...

I was just talking with my wife about the cost of bully sticks and rawhides for dogs, and then was speculating about what the costs could possibly be, given that all the beef we eat should certainly result in a whole bunch of bull penises to be dried out (yea, that's what bully sticks actually are), and surely drying them out can't take that much...
Then it occurred to me that this seems like yet another cost that could offset the energy for bitcoin mining, much like @npub1hl9…7ygv Wish I could say I have the startup capital or connections to make this happen, but c'mon, who doesn't want to be able to buy dog chew toys with bitcoin, from bitcoiners, in a way that strengthens the network and assists in mining decentralization?

Oh, the Fed has a LOT more control now than just a few years ago. That's what the whole move from LIBOR was all about -- restoring sovereignty to dollar monetary policy to the US. SOFR admittedly isn't arbitrarily set by the Fed or even a purely US market (being based on Repo), but it is targeted, and more importantly, ISN'T set arbitrarily by a cabal of primarily City of London banks as LIBOR had been for decades (which in turn steered the markets for variable rate loans all across the dollar system).
If you (rhetorical you) haven't heard Tom Luongo pound the table about this over the past 3 years I can only assume you haven't heard him speak at all.
That all said, there's a lot of wealth and power to claw back, and doing so has been and will continue to cause more turbulent after decades of America having been steered and looted by London. The ship doesn't turn around on a dime. Though it is striking how fast it's been happening considering that.
Actually looking at this playing out is where it's handy to follow the work of Michael Howell and Nik Bhatia.

It does help too to understand that in the Eurodollar universe, rather than demand deposits, most work with time deposits, which are a bit more like those wheat traders would have used. Eurobonds, and SOFR (formerly Eurodollar) futures all reflect this, and the structure does trickle through, as it's a lot easier to balance your books with a little time to plan. It also means there's no risk of a SVB style bank run.

It is, though I was more pointing out that the Eurodollar system made the dollar LESS centralized, in addressing Triffin's dilemma. When you can make more dollars by printing pounds and doing a forex swap, it matters a heck of a lot less what the Fed does. Just like wheat traders in Sumeria didn't rely on anyone to mint currency in order to have their system of ledger money.

High schools are great I guess but harder to responsibly cross pollinate, frankly for good reason. You almost have to first that the teachers and let them do the work.
If Bitcoiners adults are otherwise seen to be trying to elbow into the circles of minors, especially amid all the Epstein noise, it'd not be a good look. Perhaps with a caveat that finding ways to HIRE kids for summer work in Bitcoin (mining? Electricity generation? Get creative) could be a sensible approach. A kid that learns financial independence early carries it far, and turns heads.
As for getting teachers though, that can depend. They have a lot of Marxist groupthink going on, but if you can find a way to make them able to survive on their salary they can be valuable agents. Definitely get the robotics team coaches first.

Make Bitdevs meetups more young people friendly.
You can do all you want online but expecting to be on the same wavelength as the kids is just not likely gonna happen.
Find Bitcoin, or even Blockchain student clubs, and get them to sponsor Bitdevs providing meetup spaces. They feel included -- as leaders even -- and it attracts the older developers in the region to meet in meatspace and cross pollinate ideas.
I see a good few younger folks at the ones hosted at MIT. Yea, it's MIT, so it's a bit easier, but still it gets us all in the same place so the veterans can share experience, we non-devs can share our take on philosophy, economics, etc (and learn a thing or two), and the kids can share their understanding of some new innovative ideas and some fast moving developments that can be hard to keep up with when you're working full time with a family.
Bonus, doing it with blockchain clubs can convert them from the inside as the real differences are laid bare to be seen for all.

It of course can be social, but it's not entirely required that use cases all have to be. Sometimes you just want something to be easily available by more than one of your own machines from different locations. Or just to have off site backups.

My IBD weirdly got through 2023 quickly this time around. Which I was chalking up to a higher assumevalid block. And that may still be what it is.
But it is choking out in spring of 2024. Which, looking at a block explorer, doesn't seem as spam heavy, but is also about a year before my assumevalid block (in September 2025).

My kid's been making smash burgers with mandoline sliced paper thin onions coating them that are out of this world. Finally got me to buy a Japanese style mandoline for the task. Just throws the ball of burger meat mix (we throw in a little egg, breadcrumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, worcestershire, and a splash of milk) on the pan and then a big handful of the shaved onions and smashes them down, 1-2 min a side. Even better on pretzel hawaiian buns (though these seem to be a bit tough to source regularly).

How about autocomplete npub mentions using nip-05? I assume it'd have to be limited due to decentralization, but it seems like limiting it to one's follow list shouldn't be a huge ask.
I'd most like to see it in #Amethyst or #Yakihonne as they're my most used clients lately but it'd be a draw to another client too if implemented well.

Back from my vacation, and one of my dogs had thrown up a sock. Not a first for her by any means, and we'd heard about it, but things got worse fast. Not keeping water down, or eating, and very weak. Wife took her to vet hospital and we're looking at a wild bill for surgery.
Mostly just thought I'd come on here and thank the much maligned folks like @nprofile…uh0e and Ledn for having built out options that make me even have the choices to think through options in addressing this very sudden need for liquidity. Definitely still a last resort option for me but just knowing it's there means I can act as quickly as is necessary.
And of course to the developers of the wallet tools we take for granted to move this magic internet money around on a daily basis to take advantage of such options.
