@npub1ye5…knpr please allow users to set a NIP-05 ID in Nostrudel regardless of either or not it's valid - hear me out.
I've built a NIP-05 registration tool ( https://ok0.org/nip05/ ), and I want to be able to verify if the npub actually belongs to the user who is registering. The easiest way to do this is to ask the user to add their desired NIP-05 ID to their profile prior to using the tool. This way the tool can check if it matches, which proves that is indeed their npub.
With Nostrudel doing the same checks itself, we're stuck in a chicken and egg situation. I don't think there's much value for the client to enforce it, so I'm hoping you may consider removing that check.

I think you're right, someone is trying to make a point one way or another. It is fair criticism, censorship resistance applies to everything, including spam, so it's a tricky thing to solve.

If you are using wss://n.ok0.org - rest assured that I do check it every day and tweak the write policy to block annoying spam, such as this most recent ReplyGuy shit.
Free relays are vulnerable to spam in general, but paying to relay is not a solution.

It makes all the difference though, Bitcoin can't "fix money" if it's not viable money.
I agree that bootstrapping is a very challenging part of growth, and I don't know how you motivate people to put time and effort into something without the promise of a lambo in future, but if we want to "fix money" then we have to move on from Bitcoin.

That's fair, in general though the effects of deflation are fairly well understood and they absolutely kill economies, since people are incentivized to hold on to their bucks instead of spending them.
My argument is not that Bitcoin is useless, but rather that it's a speculative asset which makes it unfeasible as a currency.

Other cryptos could become just as secure through growth, but I guess the incentive to invest hardware in them is somewhat diminished if you don't believe their value will moon.
Bitcoin's security, ironically enough, is driven mostly by speculation.

The only properties that Bitcoin has are its value keeps going up and lots of hashing power is wasted on it, so it's costly to try and hijack.
That make it a good investment, not a good currency.

Bitcoin is only more "secure" because it's big, not because it is technically more advanced.
A coin which always appreciates in value is useless as currency, since it will always make more sense to just hold on to it rather than use it to buy stuff.
People don't buy Bitcoin to buy stuff.

I mean for starters, there are hundreds that are literal technical clones of Bitcoin, how are they any worse?
Bitcoin is just the one that gained perceived value, it's only better because it's a speculative asset.
Monero for example, while not perfect, is superior in almost every way.
