This attack was a demonstration performed by a “good actor”, they didn’t intend to double spend.
You are right, these attacks resemble a DDOS , they are less dramatic than expected but they still destroy confidence in the resilience of the network.

We are almost there.
When (not if) governments attack the mining industry, node runners can use the ultimate layer of defense, changing the algo consensus forcing a new type of machine to mine new blocks.
This renders the attack as useless since their seized miners can’t mine anymore.
So any attack becomes asymmetric in favor of the network.
While both Monero and Bitcoin can trigger this defense, it won’t work for Monero.
Why?
You can play this wargame in your head.
Federal government buys all Google’s CPUs to attack Monero, after Monero node runners trigger the change the seized CPUs can go back to their usual business.
In Bitcoin’s case ASIXs can’t be used for anything else, so they become expensive electrical waste.

Monero’s major problem is the mining algo, it’s easily exploited by governments with easy access to massive datacenters.
Monero could adopt PoW algo, but then it would be vulnerable to double spending attacks by Bitcoin miners.
This makes the value tend to 0 vs Bitcoin, only useful as a “privacy” tool.

Went there last year.
Photos can’t show how big it feels and how the high ceilings influence your perspective on state vs individuals.
However, I must say this kind of buildings exist to project a longer shadow of the state.

How you end up overcoming that fear comes in different colors.
1. You have nothing else to lose.
2. You have the proper experience to test and verify the inner workings of the network yourself.
3. You are somewhat technical and trust the analysis others do.
4. You trust if a systemic failure existed it would be already be exposed or exploited.
5. You understand the monetary part and that removes the need to understand how the network works.

Start with shorts.
I managed to craft passable clips in a weekend.
1. Record a long conversation (or reuse one)
2. Download CapCut (desktop not mobile)
3. Re-watch the content at x1.5 and use labels to note sentences you like, write down the note or a summary of it since you can later re-order them to create better story telling. (i.e. a question that is answered 10m earlier in the conversation)
4. Copy viral clips with your source material, put a lot of effort on sound and details.
5. When you found an effect you don’t know, search a particular short tutorial to learn that specific technique.
You want to learn the basics to produce good enough quality and then learn advanced stuff later.
General advice:
1. Organize a re-usable template with B rolls and sound library, keep expanding it when you find your favorite memes and sounds
2. Always use shortcuts, write them down on a pice of paper until you remember them (Don’t change default shortcuts)
3. Avoid complex animations/effects at first, you can replace them with something simple, add a time limit to your editing to accomplish this
4. Don’t spend hours creating labels at first, your labeling system will evolve quickly (I spend 2 hours labeling a video to later find out a better way to annotate them)
