Yeah I've been looking at getting a GPU for my server for a while. Whatever magic sauce Plex uses has allowed me to limp along using a very old Xeon split up in proxmox for everything, but if I wanted to change anything I'd likely need to throw a GPU in there or get something a little more powerful

I think Infuse supports jellyfin and emby, but for non iOS/tvOS/macOS users like my dad, I don’t think it’s pain-free enough. That being said, I’m willing to try again with this announcement, and a $150-$200 GPU or even a $400 mini PC with better encode is cheaper than the lifetime pass for Plex (2/2)

honestly now that I'm in the process of migrating from Traktor for Mixxx for DJing I have a HUGE thing off my plate for "things that only work in windows". Now the big things are my adobe CC apps like Lightroom, SP, and PS, though I bet there's a way to get that working with hardware acceleration.
I also took some time getting the gestalt of mixed play space and face tracking set up for VR but it was running literally at like 30fps compared to 120 in the home world in VRC, which was the BIG thing that made me drop it

I'm running Cachy on my laptop and it rocks so hard. Even test ran it on my desktop. Had to go back to windows for things that are 100% not the distro's fault but it was by far the best and easiest distro I've used for my purposes. Arch based AND not ugly OR absolutely arcane to use? AND works well for GPU applications? Yes please

Not being on my ADHD meds, music sounds good again. Like, physically, it feels good to hear a song.
I'm wanting to DJ again and I haven’t had that for MONTHS. It's wild. It's wild how long I felt like that before realizing that there might be something wrong with the ADHD meds.
And now that I'm off them, I'm like, "Oh fuck, that's right!!! That's why I did all this; because it physically felt good!” It wasn't just, "Oh, this music sounds good or whatever." It actually feels good. It's fucked it took me so long to notice it.

Yeah it's so funny to me because the scuttlebutt for YEARS has been "chrome is a ram hog" and it is in a lot of ways but holy smokes it's crazy how much faster and friendlier on older hardware it is than some firefox versions. My main laptop is a, like, 15 year old thinkpad X220 and since switching to chrome it's CRAZY to me how much better it handles the resources. I feel like it relies less on GPU resources than Zen which I was using previously.
I used to use Arc but that doesn't work on Linux, and Zen had a lot of the features Arc had, but I've within like 3 days switched to using synced tab groups for my workflow and it works so stupid well for my brain...

Plant update:
- piss queen: bushing out because I didn’t extend her moss pole
- Chinese money plant 1: getting cool red colouring because it’s getting enough sun
- weird fucking succulent: getting even weirder looking, no longer a dragon
- string of hearts: I didnt water it when I was depressed so we had to trim all the dead strings but it’s bouncing back
- monstera: getting devoured by pests but I’m keeping it there like a plant version of a sacrificial anode
- bushy pothos: happy
- Chinese money plant 2: also happy now that I’m watering it but a leaf got too close to the grow light and charred it a bit
- jade tree: discovered light and has decided to mush all its petals up against it
- succulent platter: very happy but the plant that looked like shark jaws died because it was unhappy after the transplant
- the single little hens and chicks that Koby ripped out of the main plant: lonely but still surprisingly surviving after almost a year like this

Found a project that would allow me to use Obsidian in the browser (I was gonna do it via cloudflare tunnel and gsuite oauth) and I set it up but the project literally just sets up a VM inside of docker that uses the browser window as a Remote Desktop session.
I guess it’s cool that it exists but it’s so incredibly laggy and shitty to use, so much that I don’t think I’d ever use it, so I tore the VMs down. I feel like there’s gotta be a better way, but I would use it so infrequently that I don’t wanna dump a bunch of time into figuring out a better solution.
On the upshot, the headless obsidian sync VM I set up has been so nice to use for scripting stuff. I know it was developed for the purposes of plugging an MCP into it but man just having a headless machine that can sync my vault and back files up somewhere locally is so good. (1/2)

It's stupis because it shows it in the KDE settings here(Canadian English is the only one I see that uses ISO8601), but it's not reflected in Obsidian's date properties!

Every time I find a new little obsidian extension I re-fall in love with it hahaha. I’ve got it backing up to GitHub now, and they just released a headless version of obsidian sync so I can have a headless box on my server that clones it to a local backup as well.
I really want to fuck around with some automation scripts now to push data to my obsidian with iOS shortcuts and stuff. I’ve switch to obsidian TaskNotes as my todo list (very very good) and I want to make it so that when I tell Siri to remind me of something, it sends it off to my obsidian vault and deletes the Apple reminder

I think I get a little bitter about stuff like this happening because we’re a community (furry, queer, etc) in such danger of getting split wide open and taken advantage of and every corpo service tells us we’re not welcome and still people refuse to entertain the idea of setting up contingencies
I ALSO think I should get less verbally bitter about it. I can’t be goin like two months without a post and then returning when the next Keystone Service that furries use says “I think you all should have your real identities exposed or maybe die”

Yeah I’ve looked around all day and there’s no real immediate slot in replacements for discord that don’t negate the issues discord had by just being discord 2 (still run by company and no data protection)
I think we as a people gotta come to terms with nothing is currently like discord because they’ve had ten zillion dollars of development and making an app that does text and voice and video is hard
I’m okay with something totally different than discord honestly. I’ve grown tired of the discord shtick over the years. Matrix seems cool but people hate federated stuff. Root and Stoat seem cool but neither is ready. There’s other stuff but like you’re not gonna get something that’s gonna match the thing that’s operated at a loss all this time and sometimes I think you gotta just fuckin deal with it… (1/2)

Honestly the MOST infuriating thing about all this discord stuff is every other platform just sat on their hands not developing a viable alternative for 10 years and now we’re stuck without anything that’s really a drop-in replacement feature wise.

over/under on just using matrix.org for hosting a private discord replacement? Docs are kinda sparse and reddit threads aren't awesome to find the info I'm looking for
Obviously using the main server partly negates the federation advantages, but I want high uptime and I don't trust my server not to just be ass, and I also don't really want to expose something like that to the internet without having the proper networking backbone to secure it.
Is there limits to the number of users you can have in a private space on matrix dot org or anything? Limit to the number of people in a call? Stuff like that

I gotta not let myself get so spun up by this. It’s getting me back into the headspace of trying to get people to move off of twitter and that was a seriously struggle-ful and damaging era of my friendships with people. I cared too much about what I felt they were saying by choosing to remain and I felt they didn’t care enough about anything besides content.
That’s kinda where my head’s at now with this, like if you truly care about this micro community you’ll help me ensure it’s continued existence by at least giving me the time of day to test stuff and give your genuine input, but honestly I think you just wanna complain about service getting worse and then give no measurable societal metric back to the service maker that you don’t approve

Very frustrating when I have the will and desire and skill to put in the work to build a solution and all they gotta do is just show up. That’s all ANYONE has to do is just show up. And consistently people just don’t. They’d rather let their experience and rights and privacy diminish instead of risking the slight chance of trying out something new and being wrong.

Okay I hate to make macrocosm of something small but I seriously deeply am beginning to feel that this discord thing is an example of why the world is the way it is currently.
Discord makes a headass decision, one that I deeply don’t agree with and most people just don’t like. I start researching alternatives, spinning up machines and instances to test stuff out.
Then I get told not to do anything to hasty, that they still have time to roll back, that everyone already uses discord.
People are FAR too complacent and put up with being stepped on. People are lazy and don’t want the put the work in to stand up for themselves at the very least, if not an ideal.
Like no, discord has shown their intention, they have been for years. I want to have something ready to go because splitting up tight-knit communities into larger generalized ones is ALSO advantageous to them and I don’t wanna be caught scrambling when they start requiring more information

Biggest thing I miss is built-in meeting recording and transcription. Haven’t found another solution that doesn’t require another piece of software or an agent in the meeting which is annoying because I can’t go installing small projects on my work computer, but I guess just recording audio through OBS will have to do. Weird that it’s such a difficult task to record both microphone and system audio at the same time, I was hoping there would be an obsidian plugin that did that.
Also I figured out that I shouldn’t treat obsidian like notion and have all my stuff in one vault so now I’ve got one for:
⁃ Writing
⁃ D&D
⁃ Work
⁃ General life stuff
Makes it a lot easier. Read an article by the current obsidian head about how he organizes his vault mostly by properties and I definitely copied a lot of his workflow and man it really works well (2/2)

I have made my seemingly yearly migration between notion and obsidian. This time FROM notion TO obsidian.
I do this every now and then when I get frustrated by one and excited by the other.
Obsidian bases are really good now that I’ve learned how to use them and properties better, and holy smokes they’ve upgraded the mobile app SO much.
I also forgot how nice it is to have all your files local on every device, it’s so much faster than waiting on notion to load.
What made me switch was notion breaking down when I tried to load documents over 10k words and the mobile app would just refuse to load, AND learning that written smut was against notion TOS and could have my vault shut down at any moment. There haven’t been any cases of it YET but still. (1/2)

Hey @npub1cnh…wtw0 just recently switched from Mona. Really digging this app and how featureful it is!
Only issue is that I have another account on an instance with a custom glitch-soc roll and the notification tab is completely broken. I’m wondering if it has something to do with the weird glitch-soc endpoints or something, on Mona I had regular issues with the notification subscriptions (I think) causing 429 errors.
I was perusing the issues on GitHub and I see that someone mentioned an issue almost exactly like mine, though I didn’t try their fix with removing the force V2 line and recompiling. I see you marked the issue as closed, does that mean this fix is going to be in an upcoming version?
