I had not noticed coinos-ui on zapstore before. What's the typical use for it? Does it have some benefits over using the web app through a browser's install web app feature?

You can do it with Strike. Last fall they added an integration with a banking partner so you have a routing and account number you can use to pay bills. When an ACH payment request comes to that bank account number, they sell the amount of bitcoin needed to get the dollars to fulfill the payment request (plus pay a fee to Strike).

Yeah Misty Breez is really not a Lightning wallet but a Liquid wallet, with cool behind-the-scenes set up for easy interaction with the Lightning network. But every transaction is going to have a Liquid network fee, so it is absolutely the wrong wallet for zaps. You need an actual Lightning wallet for that.

Definitely not stabbing myself in the leg by paying sats for things. What I'm tired of hearing is people say, "Why would I pay appreciating sats instead of depreciating dollars?" Which one you pay with doesn't make any difference to your stack. Whatever you spend in dollars is value you no longer have to convert from dollars to sats. Spending dollars is the exact same loss to your balance sheet as spending sats is. So stop pretending that spending sats is some self-harm ritual and instead acknowledge that it's new, early, not always possible, takes a little more effort, and its benefits don't have directly to do with your savings but with proving and showing to others that Bitcoin is money and it works.
I agree that the free market will eventually get to more people using sats as their money. But free market participants are thinking creatures, not purely instinct-driven beasts. It's not some violation of free market principles to explain why it makes sense to spend sats. People like you just have a knowledge gap or misunderstanding presently which prevents them from seeing how that activity is of benefit. 🙂

It's going to be more complicated than leveraging the loans to buy more BTC, because under the IMF program they're not supposed to accumulate any more BTC. They're obviously still accumulating BTC at the moment, so I'm not clear on when they would begin abiding by that requirement.

Just moved house this fall, so size of the garden at new place is still TBD... But typically we've had 8 tomato plants, a bunch of potatoes and sweet potatoes, couple cucumber plants, ~12 assorted zucchini and squash plants, some carrots, onions, and garlic, plus a few other herbs and a small strawberry patch.

"Society" and "the entire community" as mentioned here is some romantic ideal that does not exist in reality. It is only a euphemism for the individuals holding the reins of government.
With that in mind, you realize that they're saying the quiet part out loud:
The purpose of a public education in a public school is not to teach your kids what you believe they should be taught. It is to teach your kids what all the individual rulers (at the federal level, those occupying legislative seats or the office of the president or positions within the Department of Education, similar state level positions, all the way down to the local school board members, school administrators, and local members of teachers unions) want to teach them.
There was a time when people living in the U.S. were more unified than we are now, and it was not absurd to think that you and these rulers were in agreement about what you wanted to teach your kids. I encourage you to question whether that is still the case today.

Oh don't know yet. I built a recipe website as a project in my coding bootcamp several months back and while I was looking for a free option to host it (I did eventually find a free option for the backend--for a long time all the free options I saw were for frontend only, once Heroku shifted to paid only) I remember at one point I wondered if I could do it with NOSTR instead of a database and just build a frontend that simply collects notes that have been tagged as recipes.
The workings of NOSTR are still totally foreign to me, though, so I quickly gave up that idea so I could get on with my project and finish the bootcamp.
But it remains this niggling half-formed idea in the back of my mind.

I came out of a web developer bootcamp but have no professional experience yet, still a newbie. Could I use nostrdb in place of a traditional backend (with a SQL dB) when building a website?
