Great episode, I absolutely agree with privacy as default tools are badly needed in Bitcoin. We must advance the UX to bring more people onto self custody Bitcoin in a easy and safe way. Those tools with great UX will win and if they are private by default Bitcoin will fulfill its promise. Short of that it's looking like just another asset like paper gold in a brokerage account.

I mean the ability to assure access to make a base chain transaction independent of any other actor and independent of fees will be very important to both nation states and very large financial entities. I think they will be willing to take a loss or a wash to ensure that ability.
The ability to stabilize the grid and monitize unused electricity I think will be secondary to them.

I also found it difficult to make the leap from humans need antlers (a means to settle higherachy disputes grounded in real force but less deadly) and Bitcoin mining as being that roll for humanity.
I do however see mining infrastructure as being seen as a national security issue when Bitcoin takes on a greater role in international settlement.
I found the first half of Softwar far more interesting than the second half. Thinking of political structures and military force through the lens of various power higherachy models gave me new perspectives on society.

I appreciate the link. I feel like much of this article is very level headed and an honest critique, however a number of points I feel are disingenuous.
Foremost is the willingness to dismiss all 110 supporters as irrational extremist, this is in contradiction to your own earlier point that the writers of the BIP are trying to do was they see as being best for Bitcoin. We are people considering the trade-off of reducing the development space in exchange for less non-monetary data being put on chain. (Sounds pretty rational to me but????)
The censorship stance is entirely invalid, reducing the design space to do creative things with Bitcoin on-chain isn't censorship from Bitcoin as money. It is reducing on-chain programability, which is exactly what ETH was created to "solve" if you want to sell you BTC for ETH feel free. If you believe BTC is better money than ETH then, well that's kinda the whole point of this isn't it.
I think to say allowing greater contiguous data on chain is ok and somehow claiming this isn't opening the attack surface to bad actors who would be willing to use CSAM to poison Bitcoin I think is either entirely disingenuous or painfully naive.
To say that an error, in a BIP while it is out for review means the writers of it must be "out of their depth" after a Core update cause some people's Core wallet to just evaporate if they updated is...let's say rich to be kind.
The greatest concern I have with the BIP is the possibility of a previous spendable UTXO becoming unspendable. The use case of some deciding "I'm 100% going to send this UTXO to this new wallet via a presigned TX and I'm not going to give myself a way to change that decision but I'm also not going to just send it now." Seems like an odd use case. If I'm misunderstanding this I would appreciate correction and an example of a scenario in which a previously spendable UTXO becoming unspendable. I'm 1000% behind a chance to the BIP to prevent this from happening, as I think I've heard @bitcoinmechanic say as well.

I personally see the MBS market as a small problem to the federal government for a few reasons:
1. Most homeowners are in a rather comfortable equity position meaning the draw down in the market would need to be ~40% or greater for the creditor to not be made whole even in the event of a foreclosure.
2. There would be MUCH bigger problems prior to housing market going down noticably, ie stock market returning to just a historically normal valuation would crash the economy and tax receipts and lead to a debt financing issue (if liquidity is sucked out of the system there's no money to buy the treasuries.)

While a critical problem in our society, I think most people are focused on personal affordability problems. Would likely get traction if you highlighted how the system is set up to keep people coming back and how it an elaborate way for private prisons to extract maximum dollars from the state and it see prisoners as a commodity that should be grown like corn and not healed and rehabilitated and the returned to contributing members of society.
