The Discourse community software (https://www.discourse.org by @npub1g63…ezt9) has a brilliant system whereby a new user acquires privileges by participating in discussions — liking/following/posting/getting liked & followed, etc. It really keeps spam at bay and seems like a model worth following. This has been figured out, largely, and doesn’t offload the effort to individuals.
