As I’m going through and researching about hardware wallets, these bitcoin only open source crowd has been psyoped by these scumbag VCs.
Coldcard was mostly used by hardworking plebs, who saved for their future generation.
Now these same people will use this event as a lever so that you hand over your bitcoin to the government via collaborative custody.
I’m going through each hardware wallet and what they use, and most of the people here won’t believe that open source hardware might have backdoor lol. And open source might actually be bad for security purpose.

It’s not about open source or closed source it’s about if the company audits its code and how much they spend on security and research.
No one except cryptographers can really verify the code. Even with ai non- technical people will always rely on cryptographers, and there is nothing bad about it. This is how economy work. Not everyone is a doctor, lawyer or engineer. We all can’t suddenly become a cryptographer.

If it’s true, then any seed generated via coldcard isn’t safe. Even dice rolls. Rest I’m not technical enough to know how’s that possible. A cryptographer has to asses the device hardware.

The problem I have is with the whole bitcoin only company cult. Most people who got rekt probably began their self custody journey using ledger or trezor. They were psyoped by the cult, that they weren’t doing enough.
“Oh it’s not air gapped” “They deleted all your emails in 90 days”.
These people would today had been fine if they were doing what they started with.
Now these same scumbag influencers are pumping multi sig, dice rolls etc without understanding the trade offs. Most of them are gonna shot themselves in their foot while doing that.
Bitkey also has an infrastructure risk, which they don’t talk about much. At the end of the day it’s a multi sig.
Same with collaborative custody, you end up giving your privacy.
If someone knows about the trade offs and chooses it, then it’s fine.

When you are using any product or service you are trusting it. For example you are trusting the medical procedure,
car manufacturer, lawyer , etc..
Yeah theoretically anything can happen, but being paranoid and to start doing things yourself without the knowledge may land you up in a situation far worse.
The main question we need to ask is that how a particular company approaches its product. How much do they spend on a security research and development regardless of being open source or closed source.
We use this approach every day while using any product for our day to day life but fall for a ‘bitcoin only company must be good’ trap in this space.

You are just doing mental gymnastics at this point. Buy any hardware wallet. Most of them use TRNG, which generates seed inside the hardware. It was not the failure of TRNG but instead coldcard coded shitty software where they defaulted the seed generation to PRNG.

Fuck ups:
1) Regular dices are heavily weighted on one side. They don’t generate the same entropy as a casino dice.
2) doing it on a hard surface like your table, uneven surface. This reduces the entropy as causes dice to slide.
3) Not shaking properly every time you roll.
4) Most importantly you are relying on coldcard to give you the seed word. How can you trust that device, that’s it’s really really giving you the randomness you generated via dice rolls.
For true proper generation you have to do the dice rolls properly plus do the math yourself otherwise it’s always trust involved at certain point.
