C'mon all you #Animators and #musicians. It's nice on #PeerTube. Some PeerTube platforms even let you replace a file when you've ballsed something up, plus adding stuff to a playlist is quicker and easier than YouTube. Also, your videos are called videos and not "content".

On https://tv.gravitons.org/home now, we can now replace video files, which isn't an option on YouTube. So if you accidentally upload the wrong version (because, like me, your file management is terrible) or spot an annoying detail you didn't catch previously because you were exporting it at 2 in the morning and a bunch of people have already commented on it and watched it, you can just reupload the proper or fixed version and there it is. :toot:

Pleased to say I fixed it for the PeerTube upload, but I can see it happening again because of being a late night exporter and just generally being so close to something, you don't notice mistakes until a couple of weeks later.
There's a Sparks video on YouTube that has a typo in it too, so I'm glad it's not just me that does it. :blobsweats:

Also, is the ability to replace a file an upcoming feature PeerTube are doing or something that's around now but is a faff? I only ask, because even before lamenting my lack of archiving skills, after uploading the most recent animated video to YouTube, I noticed a couple of mistakes in it and I saw Vimeo had a thing (although it was a subscription thing) where you could swap out the file without losing comments, etc.

Things I'm noticing about #Peertube that are better than #YouTube:
- You can create your channels under a label umbrella/community group, rather than having to create different channels and link them via playlists or shout them in posts. Much cooler.
- Prominence of a "support" button without having to reach any kind of monetisation level.
- The Fedi interoperability seems like magic and you're not hidden by an algorithm.

I often wonder if this stuff is deliberate. If you won’t play the game and throw money into a bottomless pit of ads to drive traffic to them, they’d rather you were gone anyway. 🤷🏻‍♀️
It’s laughable too that this is how some promoters book gigs, based on metrics that are open to outside abuse and relying on a platform that thrives on passivity.

And I’ve read stories of people having royalties deducted or the music taken down over a playlist they had no control over and didn’t ask to be added to, whilst they advise on how to spot “fraudulent” streams. Between the ghost artists and the “discovery mode” shite, the whole thing feels fraudulent at this point. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m going to say yes but that’s part of why I love them (and I’m basing my answer mostly on their visual output - the eerie looping animations in the “Eleanor Rigby” sequence and the sea of holes in “Yellow Submarine”, the spaghetti nightmare fuel in “Magical Mystery Tour”, how the locations feel in “Get Back”, the cursed ring and the cult themes in “Help!”). Yeah, equally, they put out a DVD where they'd asked fans to create visual snippets to their songs and some of those were absolutely beautiful.
I feel the same way and sometimes think people confuse a video character with the musician making it (whether that's because there's a prioritisation of songwriting being raw, "honest" and messy currently, I don't know).

This is a really interesting thread and although I can unlink the two, sometimes the video has added something to the song for me (the recent Kate Bush video is a good example). It has also had the opposite effect too (Radiohead’s “Burn the Witch” video makes me squirm a bit and I can’t quite articulate why).

I get bits from the quarterly payouts, which is helpful, but I’m quite suspicious of the national funding stuff (same with Arts Council and there’s really good book called “Culture Is Bad For You” in that area) but, that said, some local funds really step up in their place. Mike Howley Trust on the Isle of Wight was how I was able to finish “Gilded Cage” and it was done through Quay Arts. They were fantastic, but you have to be a resident and under 30.

Yeah, that’s a great point. Maybe linking social media to an online home is reinforcing some of those things and bringing it into your space so you’re more aware of it.

Nearly a week since I put my silly video up. It now joins puppet rivalry, budgerigars animated from 1950s magazines and the pinnacle of prop comedy combined with embarrassing photos.
Apparently, music videos are dying out (in favour of lyric videos and visualisers). 🎥

I hope so. Curious to know too if anyone else has moved platforms multiple times and kind of had to start from scratch each time, or whether (unlike myself), you've had the foresight to keep one domain to rule them all. My first band started on MySpace and by the time of moving onto a new project, I had no way of contacting any of the people on there. Did the same with Twitter and just blitzed the account into dust. 😐

...I think many musicians are getting fatigued by there being too many things to update and log into and even their best current option might not fulfil all needs (for instance, my site does not allow for yearly membership and I currently have a very convoluted workaround for it). It seems like some simplification into one thing would be welcomed to a certain degree.

I think I use them slightly differently and when the website is undergoing maintenance, it's good to have something else to exist from. Additionally, I can manage a listener club, mailing list and emails from my site.
