What about a refurbished notebook, 4-8 GB RAM, SSD with 1 TB, install Start 9 on it? Not much more than a Raspi but more reliable and faster. Personally I also like mini PCs like the Intel NUC. Good luck!

This has been my fastest and easiest server installation ever. The initial blockchain download took half a day over Tor. I start with the services for #BitcoinCore, #electrs and #Mempool. Many additional services are available. Looking forward to putting the setup to use.

I have been running Umbrel for over two years on an Ubuntu VM on Proxmox. It's stable, sometimes it runs for months until I reboot after an OS update. However, recently there has been talk of Umbrel frequently sending the server IP address to Umbrel HQ. I am switching to Start9, IBD is running.

I once tried Bitcoin Core on a Raspberry 3. The initial blockchain download took four weeks. I then switched to an Intel NUC. Very happy now. It has an i7 and 2 TB SSD. I use Proxmox as virtualization layer and operate several VM, one of them with Umbrel. It runs for months without issues, less than 10 W power consumption.

1ML https://1ml.com has lots of stats on nodes where you can select some nodes for channels. I had about ten channels for my node. - Opening channels has a cost associated with it: your time and transaction fees for opening and closing. Also consider privacy and possibly use Tor.

This happened to me with Astral where I started a new "instance". It had just started to sync. I performed a small edit of my profile and saved it. The next time I opened Damus all my Follows were gone, I had to collect them from scratch.
