theyd know you are mining, not necessarily a bitaxe but would see comms with stratum serversi assume. although DATUM mining by Ocean.xyz might help with privacy. its available on Start9 for use with any miners you are running on the same local network. not sure of the technicals though.

they are talking about the open chat groups running on their servers. Simplex still presents an open source protocol for private chats where you can run your own servers ( a distinct improvment over Signal). I dont find this move surprisingly or worrisome on its own.

i am not techy, and startOS is simply the easiest choice i know of.
i dont know about the malware question, they could of course buy a start9 device directly from the company, they are very reasonably priced.

windows is terrible for accesding local start9 for some reason. mac works easy peazy and is probanly most user friendly for your use case,, and also a levono thinkpad with ubuntu flashed, then download brave onto it and follow start9 instructions to install the local cert, that is easiest ive found. but windows experience will suck, trust me.

i would get a refurbished lenovo mini comp with 2 tb ssd / 16 gb ram ( prolly $200-$300), flash Start9 OS onto it, and in a few clicks you can have a node, electrs, mempool, lightning nide, etc up and running without touching command line.

i run mine via @nprofile…d6j2 so i can only connect local network machines, but if ur technicakky capabke ti run outside start9, you could expose so others can connect their miners and just manually filter connections for only bitaxes to connect, something like that 🤷‍♂️

i appreciate the spirit of the idea but restricting it to just bitaxes is probably not the best approach, imo. i think running your bitaxe using DATUM running through your own node does more to empower homeminers, and allows you to join any pool that adopts DATUM.
but i suppose a fork of public pool that shares rewards of a mined block and only allows bitaxes would be possible.

Updated the firmware on my bitaxes. I had been putting it off, thinking it would be complicated. Was shocked how easy it was, literally download the file, browse, and upload file in AxeOS. I'll be curious to see if I get more hash now and if the bootup process is better.
