One thing that is very much missing on this planet imo is media literacy.
We can build all the censorship resistance platforms we want, if we dont know how to verify information ourselves we will always keep rebuilding the same echochambers.
⭐️If you‘re interested in learning more about media literacy, interact with this post and I‘ll probably come up with one of the very controversial examples I am currently struggling to verify myself in the recent media hype.⭐️
Media literacy is not easy and its not for everyone. It involves asking yourself very hard questions that constantly go against your own bias, not instantly reacting to the current thing, and sometimes spending days or weeks on a single topic before you are able to form your own opinion, and most importantly, it means always being open to being wrong.
I still think that learning this skill would be worthwhile.
Nobody should rely on journalists, activists, media outlets, advocacy groups, politicians or governments as a single source of truth.
Let‘s use our brains for something other than decoration ✌️

WLC vice-president (&former HRF chairman) is Gary Kasparov, a raging Islamophobe who still says bombing Iraq back into the stoneage killing hundreds of thousands of civilians was the right thing to do
WLC president is Masih Alinejad, a US financed “activist” who works for Voice of America, which was established as a propaganda outlet by the USG during WW2 with close ties to the CIA - she’s received close to 1M USD in USG funding for her work and is a big advocate for US intervention in Iran, especially to reinstall the pahlavi monarchy
Reza Pahlavi works directly with WLC, who proclaims himself to be the next leader of Iran - he is the son of the US-installed Iranian Shah after the CIA toppled its democratically elected leader who became infamous for various human rights violations, incl. torturing, disappearing & murdering journalists, opposition and dissidents, oppressing freedom of the press & freedom of religion, forbidding all political opposition
The problem I see (and I dont hold anyone responsible for working with them for) is that these organizations are the only ones financing “freedom tech” - no other org in this space finances journalism/activism/education, so they’ve become the singular source on any geopolitical definition of “freedom” that is dangerously skewed to support US interests
Just find it very sad to see good people building good products who are psyopped into thinking that they are supporting human rights when in reality it is very much the opposite

According to the NYT, 50,000 starlink terminals have recently been smuggled into Iran, despite massive sanctions & import controls.
This effort was at least partially led by a man called ahmad ahmadian, whose NGO netfreedom pinoneers is a NED (CIA) awardee.
Starlink is a critical part of US military infrastructure used to map, monitor, and target assets that can additionally be used to identify and censor down to individual users.
It was ergo not led by, or done in favor of, „the people“ but by foreign intelligence to give these terminals to selected people and organizations that will control the narrative in the interest of US policy to plunder yet another country in the middle east.
So no alex, I do not support the CIA bringing starlink into Iran under the guise of humanitarian aid. Because censorship and oppression is not freedom just because it is done under the flag that you prefer.

Hi alex, you two say to not believe the propaganda, but the number of 12k deaths stems from two US NGOs which are directly partnered with the National Endowment for Democracy which, as everybody knows, repredents the interests of the CIA

If you've seen this post on X, it is completely untrue.
DAC8 is very very bad, but the EU has not "OFFICIALLY ENDED CRYPTO PRIVACY IN THE EU", and is most certainly also not "the definitive end of anonymous crypto holdings in the EU".
There's a bunch of surveillance risks for people who rely on exchanges and custodial services with DAC8 that mainly pertain to international information exchange, e.g. giving the UAE insight into all your transactions if you are a UAE citizen living abroad, which can pose a risk to your life if you are a journalist for example.
But DAC8 doesn't affect non-custodial software at all, which is what you should be using if you want privacy in the first place.

Re favoring Maduro, I think this topic is a lot more nuanced. Not everyone (incl myself) who criticizes Machado and/or the US' complete disregard for intl law & imperialism necessarily supports someone who imprisons journalists and dissidents and runs a country in a way where many seemed to feel like they did not have a voice.

You seem to be operating from the assumption that technology (and the people building it) are perfect. I hope i dont have to tell you that this isnt the case. As long as technology exists, people will get hacked.

Okay. Since you identify as an anarcho-capitalist, letd use some language of the philosophy you follow to maybe help you understand.
Rothbard defined private property as anything that is a scarce resource.
While a server is considered private property under this framework, data is not - first because it is words, second because it can be indefinitely copied, backedup, and redistributed.
Without getting into whether we find it justified to break into someone else‘s server or not you state that this is violence, while I believe that this is a pretty insane distortion of the term which will only lead us toward a future where words no longer have any meaning.
Its just one of the many ways in which many ancaps are inherently nonsensical: you claim words should be free and do not hurt anyone, then claim that deleting a spreadsheet is a criminal offense (which both, btw, are nothing but words).
Second, you can argue that the founder of the site engaged in direct action, and i dont have a problem with the site existing per se. But action always reaps a reaction - and in this case one that i support. Crying about it just makes you sound like a sore loser.
Fyi, since such data is usually backedup, Im sure the site is already running elsewhere again.
