If you are a user or developer of non-custodial privacy software, you should be extremely fucking angry right now.
A Texas court has dismissed a lawsuit against Pam Bondi, in which a developer laid out that the US Government's prosecution of non-custodial privacy devs was keeping him from publishing his own non-custodial privacy software, directly affecting his freedom of speech.
The court today found that this is not true, claiming that the developer is not at risk of prosecution because "he says he just develops software," "he wouldn't knowingly transmit illicit proceeds," and "TODD BLANCHE ISSUED A MEMO PROMISING THAT DOJ WOULDNT PROSECUTE DEVELOPERS ANYMORE."
This is EXACTLY what Roman Storm was arguing: he just published code, he only learned of illicit proceeds after the fact, and Todd Blanche issued a memo promising to no longer prosecute people like him.
And what did the DOJ do? PROSECUTE HIM ANYWAY.
It is NOT SAFE for privacy developers in the US right now, and the courts made clear today that they have no intention of making it so.

A lot of people seem to not be aware what a major win for privacy the SEC's interpretation on securities is, so let me spell this out for you.
Under Gensler, the SEC attempted to classify digital asset developers as securities broker/dealers.
This would have meant that anyone offering digital asset services and software would have needed to register with the SEC and apply KYC/AML programs by law.
Similar language has been included in latest market structure proposals, which insufficiently clarified who exactly such registration requirements would apply to.
The SEC's interpretation now makes clear: No AML/KYC for bitcoin, at least not under the SEC's authority.
Probably the biggest advancement for privacy under this entire administration.

One thing that is very much missing on this planet imo is media literacy.
We can build all the censorship resistance platforms we want, if we dont know how to verify information ourselves we will always keep rebuilding the same echochambers.

Media literacy is not easy and its not for everyone. It involves asking yourself very hard questions that constantly go against your own bias, not instantly reacting to the current thing, and sometimes spending days or weeks on a single topic before you are able to form your own opinion, and most importantly, it means always being open to being wrong.
I still think that learning this skill would be worthwhile.
Nobody should rely on journalists, activists, media outlets, advocacy groups, politicians or governments as a single source of truth.
Let‘s use our brains for something other than decoration ✌️

According to the NYT, 50,000 starlink terminals have recently been smuggled into Iran, despite massive sanctions & import controls.
This effort was at least partially led by a man called ahmad ahmadian, whose NGO netfreedom pinoneers is a NED (CIA) awardee.
Starlink is a critical part of US military infrastructure used to map, monitor, and target assets that can additionally be used to identify and censor down to individual users.
It was ergo not led by, or done in favor of, „the people“ but by foreign intelligence to give these terminals to selected people and organizations that will control the narrative in the interest of US policy to plunder yet another country in the middle east.
