If you can consider nostr as a sort of organism (and mycelium is a decent comparison):
what "material" does it ingest? (content, ideas, participants, structures, projects, monetary value?)
What can it digest easily, like food (data, participants, projects, structures, centralizing forces) vs accomidating foreign material (like a metal plate in place of bone, centralized silos, partial interoperbility with nostr)?
What does it produce? ( structures, companies, projects, more content, more connections?)
How does it breathe? (the influx and efflux of participants, the (dis)connections around users, identity and data)
answering these questions is one way to figure out how to _literally_ #grownostr

The ultimate game to win, and is very relevant to nostr, is not the win that "beats out the opponent"
The ultimate win, is when whoever identifies as "the other side" realizes there's nothing to beat, and that no one is _trying_ to beat them out.
"You were always welcome to play with us, but you chose to play by yourself. And that's always fine, there's never anything wrong with that if you don't like the rules. You are always welcome play your game with your own rules. But you know, it'd be a more exciting and fun game if we're all playing together."
Always a negotiation of what the conditions are. The negotiation evolves the game, it brings more players. Always some prodding and pushback, competitive banter, but always trying to bring more players, regardless of the alliance.
If it were The Final Game to win, maybe. Maybe you'd push for your side to win, and the other to lose at any and all costs, for the other side's destruction. But At All Cost games reduce and simplify ecosystems, they create monocultures by definition, and reduce robustness.
This isn't The Final Game, with finite outcomes. It's an Infinite game, just as serious. But the purpose is to keep the infinite game continuing, not to win and then end. You can win smaller, semi-high stakes games/tournaments within an infinite game, of course. But they're still in service of the larger game's continuation and evolution, and never as serious.

Reading this _weird_ piece of theory-fiction is... _weird_. Secondary sources, I get them. This this? I know what it's _about_ but can barely pull anything out of it. It's awesome.
An essay written by the _actual_ authors, written in a half-perspective from a professor (Challenger) giving a lecture. The professor is a character invented by Arthur Conan Doyle (Author of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes), who is an imagined mix of two real life scientists from Doyle's life. The lecture is attempting to describe (and the audience is not happy, they're actively leaving the room) how sediment of layers is a universal process, that machines of geology are similar to machines of biology, but solve different problems, oh and somehow linguistics fits in there, somehow. That animals are isomorphic to one another. To save the lecture Challenger creates a synthetic debate between multiple dead biologists that are all offended at each others' explanations.
Challenger from Doyle's original book tried to prove the earth was alive by drilling into it with a machine. He drilled so deep that he punctured the earth's membrane and the earth screamed.

Basically an argument that any level of analysis - chemistry, physics, biology, neuroscience, psychology, social behavior - are all discrete perspectives and slices of the world with its own assumptions and biases. The fields themselves try to assume a closed offness in some sense when they isolate and fail to account for the cross level interactions, but their manifestation in nature is that all of this is entangled at the highest, lowest and every possible level in between at any type of resolution that you can even describe.
(1) they are completely interdependent. you will never get biology from chemistry, physics, atoms, quantum physics etc. because they don't compose into each other on the material level, and (2) the descriptions themselves are also mental constructs, tiny sliced approximations for the infinitely complex interactions that occur on arbitrarily drawn boundaries

For some, there's an orientation toward conclusion, the yes or no, the good or bad, happy or sad, the 0s or 1s. Clean lines and categories. Not that the messy doesn't happen, but that because *overall* it is something, therefore I conclude that it is that something.
There's another orientation. A sort of *being* in the middle. Different from *existing* in the middle. Sure, maybe, if you average over time, it evaluates like 0.5 of everything. From that vantage, it can look like one is stuck in the eternal gray. But from one moment to the next, there is no evaluation, and there is no care to evaluate. It is the 0 here, a 1 there, 0.8 at one angle, 0.56342... at another. Real numbers, infinite resolution, infinite axes.
"Yes, I am happy. Yes I am sad. Yes I am bored, ecstatic, furious. All these colors seep out of me, my face - my eyes, mouth, brows - all at once, in gradiations, droplets, as a pour." Closely inspect and see that each flowing drop itself a swirl of splatters. Can you say a painting is a single hue? Sure, and maybe some need that overall answer.
When asked a question twice with an ever so slight different tonalities, the answer may manifest as the opposite. Confusing, yes, but not a lack of precision or loosely defined words. Rather, it is the care for definitions and the care to use them with confusing precision. On the outside, the tornado can look like complete chaos. But on the inside, it's the historical context and occurrences which creates pure coherence.

To me, I'm leaning towards the idea that these demons are more the parts of yourself that have become cranky after not being listened to for so long. As Jung said: the stronger the light, the greater the shadow. Consider that the pheonix call may be one of invitation towards integration. Uncomfortable and messy, but that's where the transformation is. Not about letting the dark win, because it isn't an enemy to fight, more about mapping it out and learning to harness that inner space. A gradual and personal process through a temporary dissolution and reconstitution.
