hard disagree, and I say this as a Mancunian.
he's been favourablly polling ratings among all UK politicians on a national level; he was popular enough to hold Gorton & Denton had Labour's NEC not stopped him from being nominated – if anything, this only boldened people (including people living in Manchester) wanting him to come back to national politics.
he's the best antidote so far against far-right & far-left populism that is currently poisoning society.

ofc there's a question on how to spend aka the output, and a complete rethinking for European countries is needed (i.e production of drones, unmanned vehicles etc.). if anything, lessons from how US conducts the war in Iran - aside from Russia/Ukraine war - can't be more clear.
it's a chance to decouple from dependency on Americans in armaments. sadly Europeans are too slow to adapt. it's not a problem unique for UK though.

and do you know why? because since the end of Cold War European countries have been consistently reducing it for many reasons. whether it's because of naive belief that with the fall of USSR there are no threats anymore, or because of relying on Americans for armaments (which clearly bites in the ass now) - doesn't matter. fact of the matter is, 3% is a bare minimum now.

even in vacuum that argument is tbh empty because it is the same for any other public services. spending more money is important (and ofc I'm all for increasing spending in NHS, more social housing, public transport etc.), but so is spending it effectively.
say, you can spend billions on social housing, but if its quality is poor (i.e lacks insulation, quality of building materials is poor etc.) then it isn't efficient, no matter how much money you throw at it.

in addition, he cynically frames Robertson's report & suggestions as if it's the only way to fund defence and that it's always about cutting in welfare or public services (i.e the same rhetoric used by tankies & useful idiots), which isn't true.
lack of coordination is a problem but far from the main & biggest one for European armies. but then again, one needs to follow the news about wars, defence tech, or NATO trainings, rather than spread ideological narratives.

1. he omitted that Finland committed to increase up to 3% by 2029.
2. on a broader point, saying Finland is "one of the best prepared" doesn't mention the fact that they have an advantageous terrain & weather which complicates ground invasion.
3. Estonia spends 3% now, in comparison. Poland spends 4%. are they wrong, by author's logic?
4. ironically he doesn't talk about how Tories austerity politics affected defence as well.

even in that case, I wouldn't say it's different on magnitude level. right-wing populists are being scrutinised regularly, same as left-wing populists. ofc in partisan media such as GBNews or Canary you won't see much criticism of their own allies – but that's why they're partisan.
I wouldn't say that BBC or LBC, for example, is covering up criticism or coverage of Farage's racist remarks and his policies, while they criticise only Polanski's proposals.

finished reading Ardern's memoir and it left me more convinced that she is one of the best world leaders in recent years. maybe she wasn't as much leftwing as some people wanted, or disagreed with some of her policies, but she truly offered a different kind of power – one based on compassion, listening and care.
it is also a reminder that in the current world of polarisation & radicalisation - no matter the topic - we urgently need the opposite.

yeah, I'm aware of that – also, there's no 2FA for email login. Sadly there are trade-offs, but they're not unfixable: you can either use POP3 to download emails and remove from mailserver, always use PGP encryption, or regularly clean up inbox.
I could have also recommended Riseup (which is also very good!) but it is useless unless you have someone who can send invitation – although, from my personal preference, I'd still prefer European-located service.

man how much I love Signal/Molly compared to WhatsApp even from UX (contrary to some people who tell me "Signal is too difficult")
on GrapheneOS it is possible to set contact scopes (which works similar to media scope), but while adding scope for Signal/Molly doesn't make linked contacts, WA does that, so even if you remove access, that WA duplicate persists as read-only
removing them requires to reinstall WA & add scope by number

well my point is that CSAM automated tools aren't error-free, and there has to be some mitigation against false positives. I totally accept that my approach may not be the right one, but that's why there should be discussion on finding the one that takes all aspects into consideration
In future, maybe CSAM scanning algorithms will be polished to perfection and we can rely solely on them. And I genuinely hope that would be the case. But as of right now, I'm skeptical about it

on the last point: assuming someone uses Google or CloudFlare, it will require to put trust into either of these providers that their CSAM scanning algorithms don't flag anything by mistake. And they're not immune to mistakes.
Wouldn't it be better to outline that CSAM scans should be used as a tool for identifying potential harmful content with mandatory human review rather than "if CSAM scanning flags smth, it's objectively true and you must comply regardless of the outcome"?
