I think I thought of a paradox of #privacy #law as it applies to Internet:
If a govt were to mandate that online platforms CANNOT look at the IP address or ANY other location-identifying info for their users, how would the platform comply with it?
Even if the platform wants to stop serving users in that govt's jurisdiction, it would require looking at some location-identifying information.. which would break the law.
Attempting to comply with the law breaks that very same law.

Yes, I was thinking about AlphaGo's famous Move 37. It's entirely possible that neural networks can capture and scale the creativity we humans display when we formulate new math concepts and structures, and deterministic brute-force checking by Lean can provide the verification signal.
But human understanding and sense-making will remain valuable. Or at least we hope so. 😀

There's a breaking point for this perspective though, right?
If machines find a proof that SHA-1 is breakable, that is "valuable" - whether or not humans have understood that proof.
I am all for beauty being one of the valuable aspects of math - which the music analogy captures - but math does have real-world impact beyond beauty and joy.

Reading survey papers across disciplines is insanely effective.
Not only do you learn almost state-of-the-art knowledge that has not yet made to textbooks, but you also build a mental map of the field and how different ideas relate to each other. I find this scaffolding very useful for retention.

I actually want to rethink. I think software developers benefit more from their users adopting their software than vice-versa. So we need data licensing in the other direction. The whole copyright license idea rests on the assumption that you're gifting your software to me, when actually you actually need me to use it, in order to get it anywhere.
This is what Venture Capital understands, but FOSS does not.

I use GitBook - which has 2-way synchronization between a regular WYSIWYG editor and markdown files in a git repo. Surely, there are other tools like that.
One annoyance is that markdown spec does not cover many of the rich blocks article editors have.

On landscape displays, horizontal scrolling seems best for reading ebooks (until we get a really tall/portrait display that can show 3 pages at once). They make it easiest when pages refer to previous or next page, especially with visuals. #design #ebook

BTW, looking at your standing position for the Harpejji, it seems flipped compared to Linnstrument: Y-direction takes you a semitone up where as X-direction takes you to next strong.
So melody/scale patterns from one instrument wouldn't work on the other. Does that require twisting the brain somehow?

Govt institutions in India (both state and central) keep coercing citizens to enrol for and then share their national biometric identifier #aadhaar .
The worst part is, since the Supreme court verdict, this sharing is supposed to be voluntary. But portals are built to make it mandatory and ultimately things get stuck in the courts which move glacially.

I was hoping to write a single-file multi-user (JWT-based auth) liveview-based todo list app using phoenix_playground but did not succeed:
- LiveView's `mount/3` method does not receive session data on websocket.
- phoenix_playground does not support on_mount callback
- Trying to use custom endpoint module suppresses underlying errors making it difficult to make further progress

Agree. But the early vision of internet probably did not imagine the world being made of most users being clients and a few being servers. If every machine would have been running both client software and server software like game servers or file sharing etc, NAT would make life difficult.
NAT both came from and encouraged most user devices being clients.

24 million users all being on the same #Bluesky server instance cannot be healthy for the decentralisation of #atprotocol.
Governance for hosting many users is complicated enough that we need many providers, not just one. Else it is likely to be a repeat of Twitter/Instagram.
