My cheat code for the calendar was mostly read-only, but I turned it into markdown bulleted lists by day. LLMs a good at reading it and it's easier thean trying to parse json or CSV which eats a lot of tokens.

I feel this, but I also fear 100s, 1000s, and 10ks of self-hosted servers with different rules and nuances just to figure out how to post an issue or fork a project, and I fear we are going to leave new contributors even further behind.

It's all good. There are three parts to it. They keep filing as they figure it out. Overall, I am impressed by it, but I haven't read part three yet.
At the end of the day, these are just tools that people can do good and bad, but mostly in the middle. And it sucks to see them used for bad and causing grief.

I never loved running, but I loved how I felt while running long distance two to three times a week. I finally felt back in a good grove until my last child (she's now 3.5 years old), but I have been itching to move again.
I started with a walking desk a few weeks ago and I'm trying to both get used to it and get a few miles in a day on it. Slow and steady.

I do think it's a lot like when people switched from gas powered mowers to electric. My FIL said he wasn't sure if the tech there until he didn't hear my mow my lawn. Then he bought an EGO mower the next week and became a fan.

This depends on the type of game. Some games, like the DUPLO game, are better with a touchscreen. Some like NBA 2k25 or the latest TMNT games play much better with a controller because you have more buttons and aren't covering up the screen.
I'm pleasantly surprised how big the Switch 2 is. I wasn't prepared for that.

For one-off Chat, I have been using ChatGPT since the last release. ($20 a month)
Nothing beats Claude Code for completing guided tasks (think vibe coding or prompt driven development). ($20 a month + I pay ~$20 in AI credits a month but I run TONS of side projects through it). I got a discount for pre-paying for a year so it's less than $20 a month.
I get about 10M to 11M free OpenAI API credits (per day) which I use for mostly non-client code and research.

I wrote up a blog post about it which I never published, but we ended up moving off of Fosstodon.
Our "violations" were because we weren't writing our posts, but we were. We used a scheduling app to fan them out like we do here.
I asked if using a scheduling tool was against their rules because it wasn't in their code of conduct (which they called rules).
They were dodgy and only repeated that we had to write every post. Which we already did. 🤷

Weird. I used the pop up (I am not sure how I triggered it but the Taobao link might fight it) and it looks up to me. Its hard to tell from my phone. I had my first Obsidian sync via iCloud issue, which wiped out my main vault. I quickly recovered it from my office Time Machine volume.
It's a pain point that I will consider switching to Obsidian Sync.
I have seen a few weird issues with how special macOS folders are managed when trying to sync with SyncThing too, and I suspect they're related.
Bummer because it was stable until my last OS upgrade.

None of this is a justification but I join you in this frustration.
As an insider, platform moderation is hard. WGs only know what is reported to them. Even then, people are paranoid about secret cabals, etc.
Then there are layers to get through (aka wait) and even more when needing input from a board or SC so they have buy-in.
Platform rules are different than CoC rules, and most of these platforms exist by outside groups, which might have morphed into official groups.

We needed something big enough for a four-person family that has 4 to 5 long (~8.5 hours) trips to see family a year. We didn't want something huge, but we wanted a third row so we could shuffle car seats around when the grandparents are in town. We also weren't ready for a mini-van and didn't want a huge SUV.

We are Subaru fans, and I love my Ascent (2023). However, I do wish they had better EV and hybrid options.
Several of the rental companies overbought EVs and were selling them at a discount not that long ago. That might be an option if you want a Solterra.

Thank you for the overview. We are doing similar things, but I have yet to put them all together. You are also doing more and some cool things with it.
The mental hurdle for me is that I'm quick to build out these one-off useful tools, but I have yet to chain them together in a useful or reusable way. I have played with FSM, but I haven't landed on a pattern that I like. I'm way, way overthinking it.

🤔 I have been writing about UV for months. I am seeing a new trend/pattern that I think @npub1gv2…tlwl may unintentionally illustrate in his "Using UV to develop Python command-line applications" TIL post.
Kicking off a new Python project requires fewer steps, primarily because with UV, I don't have to worry about having a Python install or even which Python version I'm using. UV can manage it all based on what our application needs and asks for.

Good question.
UV is using the existing standards and not re-inventing anything. The tool embraces pyproject.toml.
UV run uses PEP 723. UV compile/sync builds off of pip-tools. UV python uses python.org/downloads. UV pip builds off of pip.
For years, many of us have said we didn't want to install a dozen tools just to have a good developer experience, and UV seems to prioritize that good developer experience.

I gave the OpenAI o1-preview a try tonight, and I'm not sure what to think of it. It's neat to try out something that's early, but I wasn't sure how to do anything useful with it. Nothing I tried seemed better, but I'm not sure I'm clear on how to really use it. I asked it to help create a few new prompts and that was promising. I look forward to seeing what other people do with it, in case I'm just missing something.

I don't understand what GitHub is doing lately, but I find myself trying to help a colleague once a week and getting stuck in rebase hell.

I think cookiecutter is perfectly fine/amazing for kicking off a new project.
Copier has support for updating projects and even has a migration concept. See if https://copier.readthedocs.io/en/stable/updating/ speaks to you.

The sale is why I was interested. We saved $300 and got free-install. I got a stackable unit to give us a few more options when it's time to replace the washing machine. The combo units looked pretty good (washing and drying), and a few people said they work really well now. I didn't want to spend that much this time around.
My sister has four kids and has two dryers and one washing machine. So I totally feel that.

I feel you. I"m in that 72 to 100 range myself, but I mentally know whatever the top 5 or so have a chance of getting done.
I also started adding an emoji for whatever task I have been dreading the most or putting off the most. Sometimes scheduling that or giving myself a pep talk that 99% of my stress goes away after that item is done feels good.

I think the biggest iceberg is that Django's default settings.py do not run in production, regardless of which deployment server option one picks.
That has always felt broken to me.
Once we solve that, we can land on a better default production server 😉

Django should work in production by default (and locally). It should WARN loudly and plainly so people know what settings to change for security reasons.
This is 90% of the settings pain in my book.
Configuring apps has it's own pain scale but most just work once added to INSTALL_APPS and that's what docs are for.

Whoever was pushing this idea at Disney should have already seen the door. Disney deserves all of the negative press and more from this.

While I love 1Password, I feel really uncomfortable merging my 2FA into it, and yet I have started to do that because of Authy + Google Auth fails along with how hard it is to keep a backup set of yubikeys around. So 1Password is my best solution today, but I feel uncomfortable about that being my best path forward.
