You can often get them for less than 1000 bucks and they're super easy to hack into because they almost always use off the shelf RC systems. You replace the receiver with Pi or esp32 or whatever you're cool working with and there you have it ;)

To be able to resupply the troops long term, you need to be able to get there with a supply ship. And it would sort of make sense too.
