right, right but ethically, the chance of contamination is still way too high. What if someone wishes to do right by copyright/copyleft? They, in good faith, cannot use these tools then... Just because it is very very very lossy doesn't mean it's a-ok with copyright
Also, we commonly hear of the lengths emulator devs go through to avoid legal trouble when doing clean room reverse engineering
Here, our surface is not restricted to that company's code but all Non-compatable code

fine, what about copyright?
LLMs can technically be viewed as a statistical model and set of weights, whether "open" or not, and spit out data from the training sources.
There is an almost guarantee about mishmash of licenses, and lack of consent or attribution to the point of violating the trained projects' licenses...
Aren't the parties above accepting technically copyright violating pull requests if they allow LLM usage?

I've always maintained this stance: LLMs are actually really cool when you think about it. We got overgrown Markov chains literally solving programming problems!
I've been thinking of this lately: but I really hate the people running this. I hate "AI", the marketing around it and that they've normalized us using it both as a service and as a cultural thing.
This is not good for any of us!
To do this right, I think we gotta:
1. Ethically source this data. I really like the logs approach, I bet we could find more "good" ways to do this
2. Figure out licensing. The AI bros don't don't understand copyright at all. Neither do we in all honesty but at least we care. Having licensing locks with a proper attribution system would at least try to invoke trust rather than make it clear to everyone that we're just blatantly ripping off the internet.
3. Finetune and build custom little models for things in an appropriate manner, as you were discussing earlier.
As I said earlier, we care. Because we care, we have a chance to do it right. Will it stop them from blatantly disregarding rights, privacy, ethics, ownership, etc? Obviously not... But that shouldn't stop us from caring about it.

Out of curiosity how is the situation for payments with linux mobile?
Is there a way to do UPI payments? I'm honestly very interested in this ecosystem and want to get deeper into it if time permits and I have the hardware.

that is an interesting idea! How does one even execute that tho?
What would the difference between that and an immutable distro be? We don't have a pure OSS public instance for any web office tools
Regardless, this is a very unique idea - I'm curious to see how this pans out if anyone ever does it
