Windows 11 has a cool feature hidden in "device manager".
You can point it to a folder with drivers, without selecting a particular device, and without manually adding drivers 1 by 1, for each device. Just have Windows scan a whole folder, and it will add everything for all your hardware, all at once. I wish Windows 10 had that feature (it did not).
Right click, your computer's name listed in device manager, and click "add drivers". Every device installed all in 1 move.

Ultramarine Linux, KDE Plasma.
It is based on Fedora, and the only difference is it includes all the non-free drivers, firmware, media codecs, and repositories you would have added, anyway. -- And that is it.
They're not trying to reinvent the distribution. No bloatware or custom apps, or crazy modification. Just those few changes that should be included by default.
KDE Plasma, because it will make things even easier (Windows-like), with all your settings in GUI. The app store is also integrated, so you can both install Flatpaks, but also update your OS, with a push of a button, just like you would have Windows Update.

I seem to have set this fun and silly poll for 30 days. Oops.
I voted "China" and the reason for this is twofold:
1) You do not want your country spying on you.
For example, if you lived in China, you should have voted either America or Russia, in my opinion. Because the country that can usually cause you the most harm, is your own.
2) Safety in numbers.
In the grand scheme of things, metaphorically speaking, you're only a small grain of sand on a beach. You're more likely not be noticed and if noticed, not to be seen as important, compared to all the many other stones that may lay upon that beach. And even if you're seen as a stone, again back to #1, the country more capable of causing you harm is likely your own.
For this reason, America was never going to be my choice.

The Middle East is frustrating too.
We should be nowhere near there. But our government wants oil and has fight for years against an alternative. We also seem to feel we need to be the world's police man.
I want the people of Israel to live happy, healthy, and safe lives, just as much as I want the people of Palestine to live happy, health, and safe lived. The problem is, both sides have minority groups that would rather wipe out the other side, and the majority don't seem engaging enough to tell those two groups to f*ck off.
There is a word for that: Extinct.
Because historically, that is exactly what happens when those conditions are applied. And I'd rather we not be dragged into that nonsense.

I knew Kamala Harris was going to lose on day 1. But I also knew, just how f*cked up Donald Trump was going to be.
We need better leadership and better people coming forward, just as much as better thinkers when voting.

There is the interesting, and frustrating, possibility, that I may just end up back on Reddit, hidden among the masses.
I'm not happy with Reddit's app or how some of their Subreddits are managed. But Reddit worked for me, and it only stopped working, because I interned as an administrator (employed), while also volunteering as a moderator. My volunteering as a moderator caused some drama as I tried to weed out a hate group, who, in true Reddish fashion, did an "UNO reverse" and tried to claim I was the hateful person.
Thinking back on it now, I would have likely ended up on the Fediverse, like I am now. I work for Meta (Facebook), but I don't personally use Facebook, because who wants to be at work all the time? I know I sure don't. And so if that path forward, working for Reddit, had become a full-time thing, I likely would have sought to escape Reddit, and ended up here or someplace else.
That said, I'm not looking to work for Reddit, and remote work is become hard to find again. It's why I haven't left Meta, even though there are times I don't like my job. As a regular Reddit user, I think I could mostly fade into the foreground most of the time, while still being heard.
Isn't that f*cked up, though? Going full circle from a centralized social media platform, to a fedierated social media platform, just to find that the centralized social media platform may work, after all.
A centralized social media platform may have its flaws, but it works. And I don't need to keep playing leap frog. That said, I'm still thinking it over, because those centralized social media platforms still have their limits as they try to please ad-sponors, and they too have their little groupies.

I think @Kitty is an awesome administrator. Do you know how hard that is to find?
For example, I want freedom of speech, but I do not want hate speech.
That means, during the USA Election, I had the freedom to say, I thought Trump and Harris, were both bad ideas. Or the freedom to say, I believe in a free and independent Israel and Palestine, but I also believe both of them commit war crimes and neither is innocent.
The problem about the Fediverse is having the so-called "wrong opinion" can lead your account to being suspended, terminated, or suggestively told you should find somewhere else to go.
As was the case, when I and others shared that the Sharkey Development has basically scammed some of us, into thinking we were funding the development, and not someone's personal PC build. Because at the time, that particular admin, agreed how f*cked up that was, but also did not want to lose their standing with the development. So I was instructed to either stop talking about it, or find somewhere else to go, even though the admin (at the time) admitted what happened was wrong.
I'm not someone looking to self-host either, because I do want to belong to a community. If all I wanted was to shout alone into the void, I'd own a blog site. But I am also the kind of individual, who some hateful or spiteful group would try to isolate, rallying people against me, if I hosted my own island. Those Sharkey assholes, wrongfully claim "homophobia" anytime they're backed into a corner, and it can become a numbers game (1 person telling the truth -vs- X many claiming something else). So I see some level of protection when I'm in a group, who can vouch for me.
Additionally, there is the fact that I like CheryPick or Misskey, and unfortunately, many of those sites are primarily Japanese, Korean, or Chinese, which I would not mind, but they're not too eager to welcome a primarily English speaker flooding the local timeline. I can understand this, since most of the Fedi seems to be primarily, English, and they just want to have their little corner where they can understand what is written natively without translating everything.
That goes for most of the overseas Fedi instances too. I am trying to find one not hosted in the United States (and not owned by an America).
I found one (overseas Misskey site), and they're welcome to have me, but they're hosted by, Hetzner. For those of you who do not know, Hetzner is the web hosting provider that kept shutting down any Fedi site that shared any photos of women kissing each other, or drawings of women kissing each other. I would always be worried that the admin would go on vacation, and 1 lonely person would post 1 simple photo, and that would be the end of the site.
I joined the Fediverse May 30, 2023, and I am, seriously, considering leaving it. Simply because of the instability and fragmentation.

I, however, may be looking for a possible relocation. Florida's laws have been getting crazy, but it is not just Florida I am concerned about. My reserve was Misskey Dot De, but I just learned they're hosted by, Hertz (yes, the host that kills sites).

Coup d'état implies it is in progress, which it is. Our government had a balanced budge that was agreed upon, until a non-elected individual instructed the government to not pass that budget. Policy is being made and enacted on the words of an individual outside the governing body, now being included as part of that body.

I confirmed it is a device or network issue.
On every Android app, 403 error. But WinSCP on Windows connected without issue. Since, technically, the ISP (T-Mobile) for my home and cellular phone are the same, it is likely an app issue. I say, likely, because it could also still be a network issue, because while T-Mobile is an all cellular network, they sometimes do treat their traffic differently (Home vs Phone). My issue is this impacted more than one app, so it wasn't exclusive to a particular app.
In any case, I downloaded everything from the bucket, and then deleted the bucket (since I do so many odd things). I'm going to have to create a new Amazon S3 (Wasabi.com) bucket, and try to see if perhaps I can work around this on Android.

It has to be a network issue.
I'm trying to connect to an Amazon S3 (technically, Wasabi.com). I can easily enough use the Web GUI, but any app or client, gives me a 403.
In my last effort, I tried using not only user access keys, but also root access keys, while giving the bucket full permissions (777), and enabling ftp/sftp on the account, and making it public. - In short, I did the dumbest thing you can do and anyone could have done anything, but I kept getting a damn 403 error.

It is why I like, Tp-Link. Yes, it is a Chinese Company, made in China, but so is the American Company (also made in China).
But the so-called American company is likely going to use the cheapest, generic parts they can find, while charging the consumer a premium, for a device that they'll quickly stop supporting, and will crap out on me in 1–2 years. Meanwhile, that Chinese company (Tp-Link), has lasted me 5 years, kept receiving regular update the first 4 years, and is still working.
Times have changed, because once upon a time, it was the other way around.

My Tp-Link router is 5 years old (AX6000) and it kept receiving updates regularly, until last year.
Meanwhile, chances are the DP-Link router, has a security hole that no one is fixing. The Netgear router is overheating, as we speak, and will die on you soon. And the Linksys router, will stop receiving updates 6 months after purchase.
Yes, TP-Link may not have open source firmware. But it keeps working, and it was supported for years.

Do not be philosophical regarding software.
Microsoft Edge browser, for example, is available on Linux. You may want to insist they use Mozilla Firefox, and if it were me, I would want to insist they use, Vivaldi. But for argument’s sake, you know your family / friend wants Microsoft Edge. In that circumstance, please give them Edge.
You've won the battle, by getting them to use Linux. Do not lose the war, by trying to push your other agendas onto them. Whenever possible, give them what they want.

How to switch your friends / family to Linux. - Part 1
You are likely the tech guy in your group, but your friends / family, are not, and that is why they will come to you for help or insight. Whatever cool Linux distro you are imagining, do you "need" to use the terminal? If yes, that is the wrong distro!
Your grandma, grandpa, mom, dad, bother, sister, cousin, niece, nephew, aunt, uncle, and friends, learned Windows visually. If they know the PowerShell, they learned it after visually learning, Windows.
Pick a Linux distro that is visual. It's 2024, and there are more than a few Linux distros that are visual. For example, Ultramarine Linux, KDE Plasma (edition).
Do not compromise on visual. If you're imaging a Linux distro that is almost visual, but to update you need to run a command, it is the wrong distro. You can teach them all your tricks, only after they have visually learned, Linux, and doing it before, guarantees they will pick up a new PC with Microsoft Windows.

I think that is why I purchased Windows 11. Normally, there is not much of a significant change between Windows version, but with 11, they changed everything including the simple right click menu.
I really should install BSD on within a VM and use it a bit more, because it's been a while and this is the 2nd time, I've noticed I had to re-learn a few things.

I never particularly liked that joke, because it wrongfully implies, that Linux is only used by poor folk.
I can most certainly buy a copy of Windows 10/11 IoT Enterprise LTSC, which you buy in bulk. I will include screenshots showing, the activation process, as so no one can claim it was a hacked copy.
I use Linux, simply because it truly is the better option. Lastly, most corporations, which certainly are not poor folk, use Linux to power everything else (Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc... Most of Wall Street is powered, by Linux).

Because there is easier and because many people left Microsoft, because of the ads, spying, and other nonsense. I would not suggest a Linux distro, that mimics Microsoft in that regard. Ubuntu's Snap store, last year, had more fakes apps and scam apps than the Google Play Store, for example.
And, of course, Ubuntu is not completely setup outside the box, and still very much relies on the terminal.

This year, like last year, my #1 choice for newbies, looking to switch to Linux or even just try Linux:
Ultramarine Linux - KDE Plasma Edition
You're going to have a Linux distro, that just works, without thinking. By that I mean, point and click, install, and you're done.
You do not have to install drivers, firmware, media codecs, or add repositories. It has all been taken care of for you. You can now, use your computer, right away. Technically, for some of you, that makes it easier than Windows (your GPU drivers are provided).
Furthermore, once you decide you make changes, it too is all point and click. Whether those changes are adding new users, hardware, changing network settings, etc... etc...
You want to update your PC? Just like Microsoft Windows Update, you'll be notified of an update, but unlike Windows, you can decide what to update and when to update, or you could just mindlessly have the system update everything. You can even change a setting, and have it automatically update.
You can add and remove apps through the app store. Or you can download a 3rd party (RPM) package, and double-click to install, the same way you would a Windows setup file.
Ultramarine Linux, based on Fedora, means you also have 20+ years of documentation, community forums, and live chats to fall back on for support if you need it.

Unfortunately, the generic consumer (end-user / home-user), often attempts to do things with as little information as possible, with what I call, "short term motivation" (meaning with as little effort and time).
That's why when I suggest a Linux distro for newbies, it most certainly does not depend on the terminal, and if it must, as little as possible.

I could argue that during the holidays, I focus on the consumer (end-user) experience.
The question that I seek to answer is how will "John Doe" without being prompted and with no encouragement, install and use their system? -- Why?
Because around the holidays, I deal with a lot of people with little or no technical knowledge, and little or no motivation. But also because this is when many such people look to buy new devices, or quickly make changes, with short-term motivation.

Around the holiday's my computer actually runs current software.
I'm not alpha or beta testing anything. I don't have a bunch of developer tools or a host of alternative apps.
My PC and Android is pretty much vanilla during this time of year.

The problem with passkeys is:
1) They identity your device.
I do not want you to identity my device. I want you to be clueless if I am using a workstation or phone and which one or type.
2) They're limited to that particular device.
I want to be able to sign in everywhere, including if my device is wiped, destroyed, lost, or get a new one.
3) Many services that use passkeys keep you signed in.
I do not want to be signed in everywhere, and if I leave a device unlocked or I step away for 1/2 seconds, I don't want someone to already have access to everything else.
4) You need to back up your passkey.
I use cloud services, because I'm terrible at remembering to back up things, but also because if that back up is lost or destroyed, or worse, stolen, I do not want to lose access (be locked out) or give access to someone. I am also terrible at manually syncing everything (having a changed on device 1 and 2, but not device 3, 4, and 5)
I would rather my 2,000+ character limit password, along with 2-step, if not 3-step verification that does not keep me logged in, does not identify me, and is not associated with any particular device.

Of course, changing yourself is the hard part. So many of you feel like if you complain, maybe that will enact change. - It seldom does and often, the other person or group, gets off on your tears.
Blue Sky, is going to welcome a racist, and it is going to welcome sexist, and transphobic, and homophobic, and it is going to pound its chest, claiming, freedom of speech, just like Twitter or Facebook.
It is going to do that, because it benefits from you being there and crying about it. It benefits by you coming here and everywhere else, giving it free press, as you complain how f*cked up things are.
Your frustration and anger is ad dollars.
It is comparable to an abusive partner - Why would they ever need to change, while they're still f*cking you?!

I sometimes read social media post, and think, many of you could easily fall into a bad relationship, because you certainly fit the profile.
You seem to think that if you complain enough, and loud enough, that the other person will change. That's not how life works. You, need to change, by not dealing with their bullshit, and walking away.
You don't want racist? Don't associate with them. You don't want transphobic people? Stop going to their house. You do not want sexist invidious? Stop giving them attention.
You want a better social media experience? Don't use the social media platform that has all that, and stop promoting it like you do.

Years, ago, there was that TV Show, called, "Adam ruins everything".
Perhaps, because my name is Adam (no, not Adam Conover), and perhaps because sometimes I have the habit of addressing inconvenient truths, I sometimes feel my post have that theme.
A lot of people like to complain, about something, but sometimes complaining only just drives the thing you're complaining about.
You want a better social media experience?
Do not use Blue Sky, or Twitter or Facebook for that matter. The idea that if you complain about something, that benefits them, and that people will put up with, will somehow change things, is such a silly concept.
Your effort to complain about how things work, benefits them. You, going there, benefits them. Sharing what happens there, benefits them.
You know what does not benefit them?
Not engaging. Because otherwise, you're part of the system, and you help them be more of what you claim to dislike.

As much as people claim not to like drama, I have discovered the people who shout the loudest about not liking conflict, are not true to their word. Without some scandals, and some upsets from time to time, people tend to move on.
The large social media platforms understand this simple concept.
That is why places like Facebook, Twitter, and BlueSky will never be without controversy. It is why the management will always turn a blind eye to some of those monsters, because without them, the majority of the people would likely not engage as often.
It also drives traffic, because even if you don't join, it is free press and here we are, talking about it.

If you're looking for a safe space, it is not going to be on a mainstream, centralized social media platform. Facebook, Twitter, and BlueSky understands that those hateful, spiteful, and sometimes cruel trolls, keep people engaged.
They want you to be enraged. Because being mad, means you'll stick around and talk about how unfair and unjust they are, but you're still giving them what they want as you do it. -- Even now, on the Fediverse, it's free publicity, and no doubt, people will go check it out. That too works to their advantage.

Unofficially, I do not think anyone wants to officially say, we are being visited, because if the visitors were to suddenly leave as quickly as they came without any irrefutable evidence, the persons or groups that made the claim, would effectively lose all creditability.

Linux is already the most used operating system on the planet.
Furthermore, every mainstream operating system (Linux, Android, Apple macOS, Apple iOS, BSD / FreeBSD) is already a Unix System (or Unix-like), except for Microsoft Windows, the last remaining holdout, whose market share has been in steady decline. Even game developers are exploring Unix-like systems, today, and even Microsoft makes software for Linux.
Linux's rise on the consumer desktop is enviable. But unlike a firework, that quickly shoots up, looks pretty, and then fades away, Linux is not going to share Windows's fate. Linux is the turtle, slow and steady, that will win this race.

Recall in my previous posts, I was informed GoNetSpeed was coming here. They spent well over a year sending my post cards, e-mails, and their website once said, they were building here. GoNetSpeed even took my pre-order and said they would schedule an appointment to install Fiber Internet. But today, their website claims differently.

Supposedly, the reason my electric company (EverSource) was working on the telephone poles, and improving the lines (they raised the wires and replaced those small black, caps) was so that GoNetSpeed can finally come here. -- We shall see.

Ever Source (spelled as one word, EverSource), surprisingly game me to day off at work today. They were working on the poles, which caused my electricity to be off for several hours, and once I sent some photos, work cleared me for the rest of the day.
I have no doubt, they'll have me cover for someone either this week, or next (around the holiday), to make up the difference. It is what they've done in the past, since I am salary, and you know, Corporate America wants their money's worth.

Searching my notes, are not perfect, because in the past I experienced an import issue, while still on Sharkey (it did not complete). In an attempt to resolve that issue, I re-imported. Unfortunately, it did not overwrite previous post, and only added more, and so I in some cases double-post and triple-post. This means post counts are inaccurate, since some comments are counted double (2x) or triple (3x), and worse still search does not always work so well on my profile.
Generally speaking, search does not work particularly well on any of the Fedi platforms, from Mastodon to Misskey, or Cherry Pick, or any other forks of either. That is because they're using PostgreSQL and, in some platforms, MySQL. PostgreSQL improves the text base database search, but not a lot. The limitations are comparable to some forum software.
But I digress. In my unusual case, since I had a poor import, searching my profile became seven more problematics.
