with bip 110 they would have to split their data across many different chunks and pay way more in fees. And people spamming with inscriptions are not even using op_return, so opening up op_return is just one more data option to spam, it's not replacing another form.

about 4 : spam is not priced out by fees, fees prevent Denial of Service type of attacks. not spam, spam as in undesired content, must be specially targeted.

If you look at some blocks there is a lot of hashrate that are almost 100% bip110 compliant. viabtc and F2pool don't seem to include subsat txs wich makes most of inscriptions. So financially they loose close to zero compared to know and get no risk in a chain split. Just saying.

At this point the biggest risk in an attack is not about hashrate cost but miner centralization. it's easier for a state to takeover miners in the US for eg than anything else.

I didn't say it's scales and grows forever, bitcoin price doesn't have to grow every cycle neither does hashrate. fees are the less significant factor in miner revenue, it's also the least predictable. It's a free market, it's not our job to find revenues for miners, there are a lot of variables in the market, we are now at 70k, not far from 2021 ATH, half the block reward and yet Hashrate is a lot higher. In 2022 bear market hashrate was already higher than in 2021. The hashrate will always adjust according to a lot of factors, fees are one of the smallest ones.

hashrate follows price. it's a function of price and it's a free market. you will always have the correct equilibrium of hashrate for the current bitcoin price/market cap. You get the security needed for the market cap value. Then there are a lot of factors, there's the production cost and bitcoin price, even if bitcoin price stays the same after 4 years there's also the efficiency gains in production that offsets that. Miners market adapts, that's why hashrate was lower than now even when block reward was a lot higher, that's why hashrate drops when price drops, even though that even on bear markets hashrate goes to ATHs. It's a free market and they adapt and compete. bitcoin mining is still in early times, hashrate will be a lot higher in the future. We don't need to try to to fix the "weather" its all equilibrium, it will sort itself.

Bitcoin is a system made of equilibrium, much like nature, nature self corrects, self adjusts, you don't need to do anything, if you do, it will self adjust and it will have an unpredictable effect that you might not like. People have the tendency to try to control details in the system that they think that are flawed, that's what central banks do, that's what climate lunatics do, they try to "fix" the weather.

You can't opt out of soft forks, you even if you don't upgrade your node you still get the consequences of a soft fork like taproot. you can still get the spam or any bug of a new SF, it's even better to upgrade so that you can validate all the rules that the network has since they will affect you anyway. One more reason to avoid any change since it will be imposed on the whole network.

You gotta choose your VC node implementation wisely pleb. Blockstream + Taproot Wizards node or Jack/Ocean node for now. In the future maybe Odell node, Synonym node? Your og bitcoin heros are all VCs now anon.
