was on a ward for a few days waiting for unplanned surgery (which kept getting bumped). Older man in the bed across from me was waiting to be discharged to social care. Someone came to see him, discussed his needs etc. Shortly after, off he went. He was back within a few hours because the placement had neither a bariatric bed nor chair.

As @npub1d62…rhjw well knows, this is already happening to UK users, thanks to the OSA. We've already lost access to simple services like Imgur. Giphy/Tenor can't be far from introducing some sort of checks either.
To be honest, if we MUST have age verification, I'd rather verify once with my OS vendor (likely based on account age) than for every single app/service/API.
It's the timing that baffles me...

well, like "normal" for them. So, maybe they do need PIP, even though they are "normal for them", because normal for them is below the standard of normal for everyone else... but that's the question at the crux, right? What are "normal feelings"? We could talk about "normal" being centered around a mean but from where is the mean derived?
You're never really "normal" with clinical depression. It's like relapsing-remitting MS, sometimes it's just less bad.

hmm. I have mixed feelings about that. I have ADHD and ASD and it never even crossed my mind to seek any kind of benefits for that reason but maybe I am lucky? However, I do know of someone who claimed PIP when they had a period of severe depression and, despite now being back to "normal", are still taking the benefit. And that's clearly not "right".

Seems to me that the stocks are very obviously overvalued, so now everyone is banking on some sort of Faustian pact of silence.
I feel like the Prisoner Dilemma tells us how that will work out... so the question becomes: who's going to go "first" and, really, just what are they waiting for?

This might look like pedantry but bear with me...
GP practices is tautological 😉 It's unfortunate that general practitioners (a type of doctor) is synonymous with general practice (a primary care setting with a variety of professionals providing a range of services). Especially when the NHS messages "Visit your GP".
I think it would help public expectation a lot if they could get past the idea that "GP" = doctor. It hasn't been that way for a decade.

it all comes back to cost. Governments can't make up their mind what they want. They want the cheapest possible treatment AND better outcomes.
Ensuring that people get the cheapest possible treatment takes time, effort and bureacracy. Sending someone immediately for an expensive but conclusive test, takes no time and effort, and no additional checks and balances.
Basically, I think the NHS could save money in the long term by spending more in the short term.
