Awesome! Do you help develop for lnbits? It’s such an underrated tool. I’m trying to build a tool incentivizing merchant adoption using NWC pre subscriptions as the main incentive for a merchant to adopt it, but finding mobile NWC to be too unpredictable since they have to have the app up. Lnbits is one of the few persistent options. Would love your feedback. Bitcago.com

I experimented with the exact setup you described. Albyhub allows cashu mint as a funding source which you can then use NWC to fund lnbits. I always tend to gravitate back to lnbits, and would just be simpler to skip the albyhub bridge if lnbits can just add it as a funding source directly. I will say it did work though.

Looking for feedback on a new merchant adoption tool called bitcago.
Merchants want recurring revenue.
Bitcago leverages Nostr Wallet Connect (NWC) to preauthorize Bitcoin subscriptions, allowing users to pre-subscribe to a merchant, building a pool of recurring revenue that acts as an incentive for that merchant to adopt Bitcoin. There is no risk to the user, as payments only activate once the merchant provides a Lightning address. When the merchant accepts bitcoin, the subscription activates.

Was looking at lightning.pub for the first time. Seems pretty cool. I think NWC is under used within bitcoin as a way to make subscription payments. Think an API that can take a NWC string input and pull a payment from it to pay an invoice or lightning address would be super helpful for businesses to use NWC for monthly payments. Does lightning pub offer something like that?

You are definitely the superior app for Bitcoiners and the one I recommend. Their limits are super restrictive while yours are fully open. They do beat you on fees for cash balance to lightning payments with their new announcement. If I pay a $25 lightning invoice (~27k sats) - from Cash App, it takes exactly $25 from my cash balance. Strike looks like it’s adding a fee of some kind and taking $25.31 from the cash balance.

Thinking something like this. If I run a web app that I want to incorporate lightning subscriptions into. I could collect NWC strings. Then through a lnbits API, be able to pull a payment from one of the NWC strings. Can handle the payment timing on the web app, but the ability to pull payments from a NWC string with lnbits API could be powerful.

Lnbits is the Swiss Army knife of lightning and nostr! One nostr API I’ve noticed missing though is a way to pull payments from a NWC string. It exists as a funding source and the NWC service provider pulls funds from a wallet, but there is no way to pull payments from a NWC string to a lightning address. I think this would be a huge feature for things subscriptions!

Understandable not to rush a soft fork, but curious of you think it actually makes bitcoin better money or not. The taproot soft fork seemed to have brought all this mess. Why not fix some of it?

I think it was a 1/2 punch. SegWit made it cheap; Taproot made it possible for data to be large.
Without the discount from SegWit, the fees for large images would likely be prohibitive. Without Taproot's relaxed limits, the full image wouldn't fit in a single, standard transaction. I could be wrong

True, but I believe taproot enabled larger images to be stored on the chain and at a cheaper cost, which is why we saw ordinals and the likes take off

Been looking for this feature for a while in lnbits! One thing I think would be helpful. Ability to also request recurring payments. You set it up through extension, send link to payer, they input NWC string. LNbits automatically pays your lnaddress with their NWC string. Great for things like bill shares and broader reach for those that don’t have lnbits as NWC seems to be gaining traction.

Bitcoin being decentralized makes it hard to market/advertise bitcoin values. Bitcoiners should be more willing to pool money to do this. If there was consistent bitcoin messaging outside of the bitcoin community bubble, it would help make shitcoin advertising less effective.

Cash app was a great bitcoin innovating app for the longest time then just completely stopped a couple years ago. They used to offer bitcoin rewards and stopped. The limits are really bad and make it impossible to recommend to people. Don’t know why they stopped innovating on the bitcoin side. Wish they would start again. If would be great given their scale. Strike and fold are beating them on every bitcoin feature.

Question I keep coming back to is will everyone be able to be self sovereign and hold bitcoin in self custody or will it only be for the elites? If a transaction costs 30k sats today and this remains going forward with prices increasing, you have to maintain a 1M UTXO to be efficient, does layer 1 eventually price out self custody for middle and lower classes? And is it even possible to be self sovereign on layer 2 since you have to open channels on layer 1? I think time will tell, but hoping self sovereignty is for everyone, especially those that need it the most.

Love what @npub1xnf…lpr5 and those other wallets are doing to simplify channel management! But won’t it still result in small UTXO set when user wants to move the funds to layer 1 and they close the channels? What’s the solution for using layer 2 noncustodial but merging to large utxo set when ready for layer 1?

Exactly, at some price point & fee rate the average person will be forced into layer 2 because as price goes up UTXOs become smaller in dollar terms. Right now it’s $400 for a 1M UTXO. Utxo management becomes untenable for average person.
