Usually she will come to the ground and silently ask for nuts, which I'll toss to her. Today, though, she seemed to want something, looking at me with her glossy black eyes. I held out a cashew and she took it with her tiny brown fingers, then sat there eating it, keeping an eye on me. When she finished, she begged again, and I gave her another cashew, and another, which she took in her little mouth. While she was eating, I laid out some other nuts to see what she liked best. But The Lady Catherine cuddled with me, even enjoying my arm around her. Nibbler is, as usual, sprawled across my lap. My husband has been very sweet. My son was animated and kind. (Both men are very good men, kind and empathetic, but they're being especially sweet to me.) I got my act together enough to make a simple dinner for my son, and I'm in the process of putting together the fruitcake batter. I won't count that quite yet, but I feel motivated, even if I'm oogy. My Christmas shopping is done, I think.
