ah, well 🙃. I don’t believe they’ve actually drafted plans for what they’re building, so I guess now is the time for that advocacy and shouting loudly that this needs to be a functioning public space. And maybe retain some amount of historic facade or something ffs.

Do you know if they published any estimates of the cost to repair Freighthouse Square? I can see the drive to rebuild rather than repair, and having those three modes all collect in one spot would be nice. Some proper advocacy work could result in vastly improved station experience and integrate local businesses into the footprint.
That said, I do think it’s worth it to try preserve Freighthouse Square as a historic landmark if we can.

I’m hoping they were okay? The series of failures that led to that derailment is truly stunning and I can only hope that our public rail industries have learned, but we really have not seemed to change a lot.

Though when are we going to work on the amenities at the #Tacoma and #Seattle stations? Making these into proper destinations in and of themselves would go a long way to making the service feel more comfortable and convenient.

I’m sure if pressed they’ll say something about safety of being in the middle of a steep hill, but maybe if we don’t believe in cars braking ability on that hill we should just… not let cars go down that hill?
