Forced? Who's forcing who? I've read zero papers, but BIP361 is retarded. I don't care if it's possible or not, or how soon it might happen. The economic incentive to freeze Satoshi's coins is literally theft. Permanently reducing the supply to increase the fiat price is exactly the plot from the James Bond movie Goldfinger where the villain wanted to set off a nuke in Fort Knox to make the gold radioactive, making his gold more valuable. Given the choice between "rewarding thieves" and setting the precedent that coins can be frozen when it's deemed necessary, I'll take the first option. Once the precedent is set that coins can be frozen there will be endless demand for more. There will always be some new way of stealing Bitcoin. Trying to right perceived wrongs by freezing coins will be the death of Bitcoin.

Property defense works both ways. Maybe someone lost their Bitcoin, like that guy who was searching a landfill for his hard drive. Quantum could be his only chance to recover. For him "defending his property" means fighting against this BIP. Or maybe Satoshi wants his coins to be a bounty for quantum research.
If devs start deciding whats best for people's coins that is the attack on private property., especially if the justification is keeping the fiat price high by limiting supply (this was the plot in Goldfinger). That is an insane slippery slope. There will always be some justification for freezing coins and if it also helps keep the price up then the incentives are completely broken. Should we freeze Saylor's coins next?

The beautiful thing about open source is you can fork if you don't like the direction a project is going. You then benefit from all the prior work done, even by the devs you no longer see eye-to-eye with.
This is a wonderful asymmetry that gives dissenters a big advantage. So don't be surprised when the incumbent dev team cries about it. Of course they'll say things like "why don't you start from scratch?" and of course they'll shit on the fork and do everything in their power to hinder it.
Because the fork has a huge advantage. It can even merge future work the original devs do if it aligns with the fork's ethos. Any open source dev knows this and this is the reason they start throwing shade almost immediately, their work might help the competition. But anyone who truly understands open source knows this is a good thing and protects against a project being taken over by a few bad actors.

I'd love to see a core fork that is completely developed and maintained by nyms.
